I was lukewarm about Cruz returning, but now I hope he comes back just so people that are pissed at him won't be happy.

I would not appeal anything.

It seems to me that MLB has some pretty hardcore evidence if they convinced Braun to accept a suspension without putting up a fight.'

Plus, if you do appeal, I have a feeling MLB will come after you even harder and try to nail you even worse. It's kind of like a DA holding all the cards offering you a plea bargain. Accept your 50 games and go sit down.

Or take your chances and lose a year or more.

I don't think you fully understand what he is saying. He took the steroids to gain back the weight after being cured from the stomach virus.

i understand that. but it's irresponsible of him to use steroids to recover when other options are available, and it puts your career and teammates in danger of reaping the consequences of his poor judgement. (which he admitted) So, yes, i do understand fully!

This guy gets it. They are out to make examples of people. Any resistance will be faced with worse penalties.

So anyone else feel the game would be better served by expanding replay and disciplining the umpires more than they are by "cleaning up the game"?

I do think umpires should have a "score card." If replay shows consistent inaccurate calls, they get a certain score and are replaced. But I am not an advocate for wide spread replays. Balls and strikes, no I am not for using replay for that. Reviewing HRs as we do now, yes keep that. Fair or foul line calls add that and plays at the plate.

I am for expanding it to plays made at 1B, 2B, 3B and "trapped" balls in the OF but there needs to be a limit like in the NFL. Maybe all scoring plays like in the NFL need to be reviewed and a manager gets 1 other call in the categories mentioned above. To expand it any further would slow down an already slow sport.

I would put anything into my body to help it recover, but I don't care about what a bunch of mealy mouthed people say about "purity of the game."

Take 45 seconds to make sure the right call is made. You already spend 45 seconds having the opposing manager argue...get rid of the arguments and go right to replay.

Honestly fuck it we need him back in the lineup for the playoffs I would welcome him back. But in other news a Engel Beltre in LF, Gentry CF, Martin RF should be fun IMO. Nothing would drop!

I wonder if they are going to put an asterisk * next to our AL pennants. Right now our 25 got to stay focused & kick a** on those angels. Nelly we'll miss you and I for one will welcome him back. Colon-oscopy came back & helped his a's.

I don't think there will be an * next to our pennants. If so then the *'s would be widespread if it applied to the teams. I also don't think Cruz was using PEDs very long.

You and I clearly have different approaches to ethics. I don't follow rules because they are rules.

ALL people make poor decisions sometimes... they learn from it and move on.

Rangers' Nelson Cruz accepts 50-game suspension

Article says Rangers were "blindsided" by Cruz' decision. Not sure what to make of that.

If they were blindsided like the article says, then our FO is not as smart as we all give them credit for. They had to go into this season thinking it was a 50/50% chance he WOULD get suspended for 50 games. You don't get blindsided if there is a 50% of something happening.

Very interesting. Wondered when he stopped using? If you compare his 2011 and 2012 stats you see very little difference in performance both offensively and defensively. So if we are to believe this, he used PEDs just to come back to his normal performance.

If there was one thing that spiked from 2011 to 2012 it was Cruz playing 35 more games.

agreed. but, with as much scrutiny as PED's are given. that's very dumb stll for cruz to not have already "learned" from past players
Not as much scrutiny as you would think obviously...it took an act of congress to get Selig interested in doing anything about them.

Look Selig has known about steroids in the game since he owned the Brewers. Ever since Canseco and McGwire started hitting HRs into 3rd decks Selig has known. Everybody loves the longball. And new stadiums started selling out regularly and profits soared. ABSOLUTELY baseball knew about PEDs long before the summer of 98. So Selig and his cronies are totally complicit in this mess. And yes I think he's a slimy scumbag that overlooked cheating for the almighty dollar. But once the uproar reached a crescendo with Bonds, Arod, et al everybody found religion and players knew the jig was up. So if players, today, are still injecting PEDS, times have changed, and now must be held responsible.
