The team isn't in the city of Detroit. The team is in Auburn Hills about half an hour outside of Detroit. Auburn Hills is actually doing pretty well and is not bankrupt.

I imagine Smith, Monroe and Drummond will start together but will not share the court for any extended minutes. We have shooters as backups at the 3 and 4 and we could also go small.

I expect Detroit will improve in the upcoming season.

depends on jennings... if he plays like a PG it will help. If he takes 16 shots a game at 39% that is not a good sign for the pistons.

Josh Smith is going to want that ball, too! Why do you think the Hawks didn't want him around anymore?

Monroe is a beast. Smith abd Jennings are overrated. They are now a better teambut still not great. I could see them maybe slipping into the 8th if that.

Smith might be overrated but he's really good still

PPG is the last stat you should be using to evaluate a player

Oh, ok. 17 points a game means squat. Tell that to every team in the league that has a guy that hits 17 ppg. For the teams that have such a guy, by the way.

his point is you can't just look at ppg in a vacuum. Jennings took 16 shots a game. 17 points on 16 shots is not impressive. its not good. it proves you can chuck. Sebastian Telfair could average 17 points on 16 shots per game.

I may be wrong, but I prefer the upside to Brandon Knight vs Jennings.

Not sure why the Pistons did this?

I don't understand the move myself. To me it is a fairly lateral move. Maybe a few more assists, which the Pistons need, but a lot more bad shots. However, the 3 players for one does give them room to sign 2 more guys: Peyton Siva from this years draft and some other free agent, maybe another shooting 2.

Here are some players who had numbers similar to jennings last year. All stats are per 48 minutes. i calculated most in my head so they are rounded. no exact, but close enough to be accurate and show the basic point.

Jennings: 23.1 ppg, 40%, 38 3pt%, 1.12 pps, 4 reb, 8.6 assists, 2.1 stl, 0.1 blk, 3 TO

J.J. Barea: 23.4 ppg, 42%, 35 3pt%, 1.10 pps, 6 reb, 8.2 assists, 1 stl, 0 blk, 4 TO

Jordan Crawford: 22.9ppg, 42%, 34 3pt%, 1.12 pps, 6 reb, 6.3 assists, 1.2 stl, 0.2 blk, 4 TO

Gordon Hayward: 23.2ppg, 42%, 42 3pt%, 1.32 pps, 5 reb, 4.9 assists, 1.2 stl, 0.8 blk, 2.5 TO

Derrick Williams: 23.4ppg, 43% 33 3pt%, 1.19 pps, 11 reb, 1.2 assists, 1 stl, 1 blk, 3 TO

Jennings is hardly better than any of those guys... And don't give me the Jennings is the only guy on his team who could score BS. Monta Ellis and Ersan are both pretty adept scorers

I'm not looking at anything "in a vacuum." I never said Jennings was a superstar or anything like that. But anybody who can score 17 pts in every NBA game he plays in is pretty good. Sure he aint perfect, who is? Nobody in this thread is nominating him for an all-star game or MVP or anything.

You guys who are saying Jennings is terrible have no idea what you're talking about. There aren't that many guys in the NBA who can average 17 PPG no matter how many shots they take.

And there aren't that many guys who will take a hurried up shot from this range "with 6 seconds left" in the game.

So you are going to judge this guy's whole career on this one play? And what are the other circumstances surrounding this shot? Was anybody on the Bucks on fire in this game? Was Jennings hitting from there earlier?

You've taken this video out of context and I doubt you know the answers to any of those questions.

And there are 4 defenders between Jennings and the basket. Only one of the Bucks was trying to hustle down the court at the time. You failed to mention anything about any of that.

If Smith is starting at the 3 then the team will have no spacing whatsoever. Expect Smith to jack up threes because he makes 1 out of 5. Actually that won't happen because the ball won't be leaving Jenning's hands. This team needs to just move out of the bankrupt hell that is Detroit.

They went from Pontiac to Auburn Hills about 25 years ago. Probably be back downtown at some point this decade though.
