What about the hole we already have in the OF that we're trying to fill in addition to finding a pitcher for the rotation AND replacing Cruz, I think you're being pretty ambitious there

To do all that would do a pretty good job of gutting the farm system

we only have 1 real hole in the OF if we lose Cruz with Martin, Beltre and Murphy + Baker. but I forgot how much you hate Murphy.

Yea thats a good point, I just think we are assuming that Rios and Garza will cost all of our high to mid level prospects. We have accumulated assets in positions of strength to be able to trade them for a need(s). Like I said above we wouldn't need two bats. Either way, I wouldn't be mad at either route.

I'm not thinking its going to cost that much prospect wise to get Rios due to him being a salary dump, his cost is in terms of dollars over the next year and a half

Garza is going to cost much more in terms of prospects for sure, but I still don't think it will be so bad, as there is a good chance Garza bolts whoever he is traded to after this season, a la Cliff Lee... lack of control going forward is going to limit what they can get for him, as he's not an elite pitcher and teams won't overpay to keep him after this year

I don't understand this.

Why baseball?

What would happen to the NFL if this kind of crackdown on PED happened?

Hate him? No. But he's killing this team. He's a hole.

Bud Selig wants Ryan Braun badly. He made them look very foolish and they're trying to nail him to the wall.

 ALL THE TALK RECENTLY TO ACQUIRE AN OUTFIELDER IS BECAUSE OF HOW CRAPPY MURPHY HAS BEEN

I spent the first half of the year defending Murphy, and I forgot how you love to throw around the word hate

I most certainly don't hate Murphy, but he ain't getting the job done and its not for a lack of opportunity, its been time to look elsewhere

If they determine and Beltre shows he can handle an everyday spot, by all means, but thats a pretty big gamble at this point, but I'm certainly ok with that too, but to say thats not a hole thus far is pretty short-sided

You wouldn't need two bats, you would just go after a bat as planned (Rios) and pitcher (Garza) and platoon the DH spot (because you have Profar and EB as utility players), then plug Baker into the RF spot (assuming he has a plus arm since he plays the hot corner).

posted that a while ago, we do not NEED two bats, Baker is more than capable of playing RF and Rios can be acquired to take over LF.

and they will in the off-season when he becomes a FA. you're right HATE is too strong a word, but when you get on a player you become a little obsessed with it. I agree that Murphy is not producing like we wanted but he's on a pace to match his career avg's in homers and rbi's

Assuming Beltre is ready for an every day spot in the order is assuming a lot. Baker is a platoon player, plain an simple. You play him every day and he gets exposed for what he is. Baker isn't a great OF either. Murphy has been a hole all season. That's why we're talking about acquiring rios. Even if you acquire rios to fill Cruz's loss you still have Murphy's bat killing you in the lineup everyday.

When I get on a player its well deserved

Michael Young last year (-1.7 WAR) and Murphy this year come to mind

He would be playing RF, it's not hard. EB would not be in the line up everyday, he would be used as utility to get other guys in the OF a rest in the field to DH Profar could do the same in the IF. Like I said platoon the DH spot like we are now.

I do t believe baker has a good enough arm to play rf, and you still have Murphy killing you in the lineup every day.

Pretty sure you said the same thing about Michael young all last year too.

Their have been a lot of utility players get full time roles mid season due to unfortunate circumstances, he is more than capable of playing, especially in RF that isn't demanding defensively.

really depends on the stadium too, some places have tough LFs and some have tough RFs

You cannot possibly know that. Your plan makes some huge assumptions and his career numbers indicate that if you make him an every day player he gets exposed. I'm going with the numbers on this one over your gut.

Rio's would take his spot, and Murph would go back where he belongs as the 4th OF. Baker plays 3rd, therefor he has to have a plus arm.
