Sure I can agree with that JD however I think that Shaq should thank Kobe too and both should thank Phil and the role players as well.
It takes a team to win a Championship, even then some of the best on some very good teams fall short.
As I recall Shaq had a pretty talented SG in Orlando, made the Finals too but got run off the court in a 4 game sweep (Not to be confused with the phantom 5 game sweep).
Funny how Shaq's apparent MVP Finals numbers of 28 points on 59.5% shooting, 12.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists just wasn't enough but once he teamed up with another great SG and what some here want to call Robin, he gets him some rings.
Who knows how history writes itself, without Kobe on the Lakers, Shaq may have very well ended up as the most dominate player who never won it all taking the title from Chuck.
IDK and neither does anyone else.
its beyond me why this point is always overlooked. fans argue over individuals who are apart of a team sport as if this was boxing or tennis. If you were not a basketball fan and someone was trying to explain the greatness of a player like MJ, i think you would swear he only played 6 years and the reason he didnt win more championships. At the end of the day, its about how many rings have your team won... When the Heat can sit at the table with the Lakers, we will welcome you to the discussion. until then, enjoy the championship heat fans.
