Sure I can agree with that JD however I think that Shaq should thank Kobe too and both should thank Phil and the role players as well.

It takes a team to win a Championship, even then some of the best on some very good teams fall short.

As I recall Shaq had a pretty talented SG in Orlando, made the Finals too but got run off the court in a 4 game sweep (Not to be confused with the phantom 5 game sweep).

Funny how Shaq's apparent MVP Finals numbers of 28 points on 59.5% shooting, 12.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists just wasn't enough but once he teamed up with another great SG and what some here want to call Robin, he gets him some rings.

Who knows how history writes itself, without Kobe on the Lakers, Shaq may have very well ended up as the most dominate player who never won it all taking the title from Chuck.

IDK and neither does anyone else.

its beyond me why this point is always overlooked. fans argue over individuals who are apart of a team sport as if this was boxing or tennis. If you were not a basketball fan and someone was trying to explain the greatness of a player like MJ, i think you would swear he only played 6 years and the reason he didnt win more championships. At the end of the day, its about how many rings have your team won... When the Heat can sit at the table with the Lakers, we will welcome you to the discussion. until then, enjoy the championship heat fans.

Kobe used to make awesome buzzer beaters night after night in the 2003 season. One of them was a 3 to win the division. That was right after he did that the night before. And they weren't wide open like the Heat players get being so deep in their game 7's. His shots were much more contested. Don't know if anyone remembers those days.

Is that what it's about?
Even if many of those championships are from 50-60 years ago and took place thousands of miles away?

The Heat can sit at any table if comparing apples to apples since their modern day expansion entry into the league in 1987, and would be the head of the table against the vast majority of teams.

:lame:I can't believe you LA fans can disrespect Shaq like that. The most dominating force in the paint ever, Kobe was open and Shaq still played better getting doubled. Just shows how great Shaq really was and a top 5 player of all-time.

I agree, its lame to disrespect what Shaq accomplished.

I would also say its lazy spectating to say, Shaq was the most dominating force in the paint ever, unless you are only talking about the offensive end of the paint? He showed little effort to rebound and block shots most of his career. He should of made people forget about the single season rebounding numbers a guy like wilt put up if that were the case.

you cant be serious? IF we compared apples to apples and started counting the Lakers rings since the 80s, the heat does not have a seat at that table. Vast majority of teams, yes, I couldnt agree more.

Can't be serious about what?
In my opinion, the LA Lakers are the most storied franchise of all time.
The Minneapolis years, I just dont see why any LA fan would care about those.

Also, I know the Lakers have been the better franchise since 1987, but once again, starting at the same year isn't apples to apples because we all know it is a lengthy process to get from expansion to contender.

Anyway, I can appreciate that some people put more weight on overall history vs current play, but I don't.

I view sports as seasonal entertainment and am much more concerned with what us currently going on vs what I might have enjoyed or not enjoyed years ago.

Does it really make you feel satisfied to remember the Lakers won 4-5 years ago vs having the feeling of being a contender now?

Let me clarify for you since you don't get it, the point is we've won in the past, we've won recently and we'll win again.

Great post Rob but I think Duncan deserves to be there with Kobe if not rather than.

Obviously you didn't make the poster but that poster is the testament to Kobe being overrated by the media and general public, or who ever made that poster.

What do you think I don't get?
Perhaps you are the one who doesn't get it?
I don't disagree that eventually the Lakers will win again but the cycle to get there might not be near as quick as you hope/think it will be.

Clearly, you are missing the point.

Kobe is great, Shaq is great, LeBron is great. Enjoy.

Just paying my respects to Duncan. He deserves to be there in the 2000s not just Kobe.

I get it every night, you get wellfare. Tell us again Turnip how you sit courtside with the players and give them high fives and how sometimes when you're good they let you sniff their jockstraps.

Shaq was always the man, do not kid yourself. He was consistent and defenses singled him out. Coaches had to do hack a shaq. Kobe wasnt their concern as much as Shaq. But to give credit to Kobe he did deliver scoring. If I recall the Lakers never had Kobe on Iverson for example. Kobe was a scoring threat then. Thats about it.

What I dont understand is why Laker fans undervalue Shaq when Kobe is in the discussion.

I guess your memory is crap. Kobe did indeed shut Iverson down when needed. Or maybe it's not your memory. Maybe you're just dumb. How do you think Kobe made first team all defense 9 times?

Uh, kobe was a scoring threat, that's about it...Duh.

Much better chance then you get welfare then most people since you aren't educated enough to spell it correctly.

And by the way, fans sit courtside, the players are on the court. Don't be jealous, just work harder and try to put yourself in a similar type position.

How about this, when the Lakers become the best team in their own building again or better than the 3rd best team in their division, come back and talk championship hopes again.
