???? What??? EVERY SINGLE SHOOTING metric has Magic as the better shooter. ALL of them. Every last one. The whole enchilada. The entire thing. Repeat!!! Fg%, 3 pt FG%, FT %. ALL OF THEM. Thats not cherry picking. Its literally taking the entire cherry tree and having it say the same thing. Come on man, lets be real.

None of that matters. Facts be damned.

Johnson avg. 13.2fga per game for his career, to MJ's 22.7. Johnson didn't avg. one 3pa in a season until 10yrs into his career. Johnson's % would be much lower if he took the jumpers and faced the D that MJ did.

For their careers, Jordan averaged a whole 0.5 3PA's per game more then Magic. A higher percentage of Magic's career shot attempts came from behind the arc compared to Jordan's (8.9% versus 7.2%). Jordan made a living getting to the rim and working the midpost.

And with that statement you just lost all credibility. But thanks for stopping by. :suds:

JD doesn't care about things like credibility and facts when it comes to hating the Lakers!! It's unfortunate because he is a great poster otherwise!!

Youre really going to use a players FT% to say he was a better shooter? Then tell me I lost all credibility??

OK.... so we'll totally disregard the 3pt shot since is wasn't a part of eithers game.

Jordan also made a living at hitting mid-range jumpers. Ervin did not. His game was post up / inside the majority of the time. MJ could torch you both ways.

Are we really having this debate????

What does that have to with the post you quoted exactly?

I said that? What? We seem to be on different wavelengths here. You say that leading the entire league in FT % is meaningless. Something tells me if MJ did it, you'd be flaunting it.

And who is "Ervin?" Do you mean Earvin as in Magic's first name?

Because I allegedly don't care about credibilty or facts, while your're using FT% and FG% to say that Johnson was the better shooter.

So who would you rather have when asking to make / take the last shot between the two?

Yes...you said that. FT% is meaningless when you're comparing who was the better shooter between Johnson and MJ.

Players don't get drafted because they shoot well from the line

Apparently you missed the part where the person stated that Magic had a higher % in ALL categories re: shooting. Not just the FT% that you are focused on.

Honestly, I'd take either one of them. Magic hit more than his fair share of game winning shots!!

As far as hitting clutch shots, they were pretty much equal!!

Now what were Jordan's numbers when they were both active? It's no secret that the NBA was was quicker from 1984 to 1992 than it was after then. It was really easy to put up high FG percentages.

Jordan shot 53% from 1988-1993 (the years of his prime in the fast era). Magic was still in his prime from 1988-1991, and he was shooting under 50% those years.

Also, MJ had a higher 3 point percentage than Magic. And FTs are pretty much a tie.

Jordan was a better shooter than Magic, and despite what you say, the stats suggest that.

And defensively, Jordan was the best guard ever. Magic wasn't even close.

Jordan was a top 6 defensive win shares player eight times. Magic was never better than seventh.

Jordan was first team All-Defense nine times. Magic was never on the All-Defense team.

Jordan was the top rebounding shooting guard in the league, He led the league in steals.
Let's not pretend that Magic was a better defender because he had one more rebound per game in his career when he often played under the hoop and Jordan didn't.

Or to put things in another perspective, Magic Johnson's HIGHEST win shares for a season was 16.5. Michael Jordan had NINE SEASONS higher than that. He only played twelve full seasons with the Bulls.

Translation: The numbers don't add up for my guy, so I'm going to cherry pick stats from a time frame that was less than 1/2 of eithers career and hope no one notices!!

I'm sure if shooting splits were recorded before 1996 (Thats the earliest I found from two sites so I'm just assuming here) it would show Jordan has a better mid range game and better shot. Jordan's splits from 96 showed him to have a great percentage in his mid range game. You could argue Magic is better than Jordan, but you can't say he is a better shooter or better scorer than Jordan.
