hey hammerdown, Magic said himself that MJ is the best along with Larry Bird. That still doesn't matter though cause its all about opinion. MJ was more successful longevity wise. He was the best player at age 36! Magic got old fast it seems. And Russell better than Jordan, that's funny.

How about comparing by position only. The best in each position: C-Jabbar, PF-Duncan, SF- Lebron, SG- Jordan, PG- Magic. My opinion of course.

I've always thought the Lebron/MJ comparisons were a bit off. Lebron's game favors Magic, much more than it does MJ.
Its not really a comparison. Im just suggesting that the 3pt shot is a weapon that Kobe, Lebron and Durant have over players from older eras because their game wasn't based around it.

The Mailman at PF or even James Worthy to help Magic run the fastbreak. Timmy couldn't run a fast break.

I hear Bill Walton's prime was something else but Im not old enough to have seen it. Prime KG is the exact type of player you want on a team full of superstars, imo.

Kareem is the GOAT because he developed a virtually unguardable shot, not just go-to move. No other player can say that. He dominated the entire decade of the 1970's and then won a Finals MVP in '84. Nearly all the stats and awards are in his favor. He gets knocked for longevity only when it comes to stats, which I think misses the point entirely.

Wilt was able to block that shot and abused Kareem early in his career. Not saying Wilt is better, but just mentioning this so people would realize that Wilt would still be a beast against better competition.

Yeah but Big Red was in his prime in like '73 at UCLA. It was all downhill from there as he invested heavily in Dr. Scholl's stock. And he was allot like KG in being cancerous on a team; with those two it's always going to be way more about them than the team and the glory they crave doesn't equal the talent. I'd take Timmy over KG 10:1. More production, less ebonics.

Really? Never heard that. Kareem was 2" taller than the Stilt and a man 8' tall couldn't block a Kareem skyhook.

Undeniable. On a team with Magic operating a Showtime-type offense, it would be tough to not pick Kareem at C but it would be interesting to see what effect a great passing C like Shaq would have on the flow of the game. I'm sure Pat Riley and Phil Jackson would consider that a dream to design.

Wow! :omg: Wilt was something, wasn't he? My Dad used to watch him playing volleyball (Wilt's real love) on Venice Beach.

Yea he was also a trackstar. He must have been able to block shots 13 feet in the air. Fucking amazing.

Anyone remember Ralph Sampson grabbing a quarter off the top of the backboard?

My uncle told me the same thing. Wilt was able to block the "SKY HOOK". He also said Wilt was probably one of the strongest men ever.

I actually think you can make a better argument for Magic over Michael than anyone else. Magic was a better shooter ( 52% to 50%), a better 3 point shooter ( 35% to 33%), a better FT shooter ( 85% to 83%), a better rebounder ( 7.2 RPG to 6.2), a better assist man ( 11.2 to 5.3). Michael scored more ( 30.1 to 19.5), stole it more ( 2.3 Steals per game to 1.9), and had more blocks ( .83 BPG to .5 BPG). Magic actually pretty much domainates Michael statistically and I think we can all agree that Magic played in the better era for NBA basketball and for ALL the talk about MJ walking away for 2 years in his prime you have to remeber Magic was forced out of the game at 32 years old. Who knows what happens with the Lakers if Magic doesnt leave and plays 4-6 more years. He could have easily won another title or 2. Both guys were all NBA first team 10 times, both were all stars almost every year of their careers. Michael won 1 more title and was a slightly better defender but the gap on their D isnt as big as some would have you believe. Plus Magic was BY FAR the more versatile player.

LOL, guess I should have read the whole thread as this has already been debated.... Oh well.
