What I really disliked was Leyland's game plan of having the offense only produce one run.

until vmart can start hitting this offense is stuck in the mud. no need to pitch to cabby or prince if the DH flounders around 225.

I doubt it can be a proven connection...but I think Fielder's production has dipped recently because the pitching staffs of other teams are starting to realize that VMart is not the RBI machine of the past...and may never be again. I do realize however that moving VMart down in the lineup (or out of it?) would be a large admission of the failure to capture the predicted awesomeness of the highly touted 3-4-5 spots in the lineup.

Agreed, but today Vmart did get a hit and a walk....What did Prince and Miggy do combined?

Tiger first round draft pick Ryan Perry (2008) is now off the Nationals 40 man roster and at AA Harrisburg. He has not pitched in the majors this year. The Nationals were trying to convert Perry to a starter the last two seasons...but that has pretty much been a failure (much like his time spent in the Tiger bullpen).

Seeing stuff like that makes me worry that perhaps DD wouldn't know a good relief pitcher if it bit him in the ass....as we head into the trading season, looking for a closer.

I think it was in 2009, I recall DD going on a pre-game tV spot - declaring that Francisco Cruceta(sp), who DD claimed he found in the jungles of Paraguay, was going to come in and be the teams closer, that would lead them 'to the top'. Cruceta lasted less than a month and has never been heard from since. Many believe that the millions DD paid him to come to the U.S., is now being used to fund government rebels in remote Paraguaian outposts.

well so far so good for CB pick Corey Knebel . College closer for Texas is now the closer at west Michigan and has not allowed a hit in his 3 games. Just wonder since he was a closer at a major baseball factory how fast he moves up?

Probably do as good as Coke or Valverde with a days rest.

Basically what I said after the game. Can't put the loss on Phil Coke or Jim Leyland when the team's vaunted 1-5 hitters go 2-for-19 with zero RBI and 9 LOB.

I don't put that on DD. The scouting line on Perry when he was pitching at the U. of Arizona was that of a power pitcher with filthy stuff. We saw flashes of that here. His problem in the majors has been consistency of location, which is awfully hard to predict. You can get away with so-so location in college with stuff that nasty. Not so in the big leagues.

I don't think DD gets the credit he deserves around here. Yeah I think it was a lapse of judgement on his part to go into the season without a legitimate closer, but overall he has a solid track record. Every day that scherzer and Jackson trade looks better and better. Edwin Jackson is perhaps the worst pitcher in baseball not on the Astros, granderson is oft injured. Cabrera is a beast obviously and the tigers traded squadoosh to nab him. Even the renteria for jurrjens trade doesn't look awful anymore. Although I still do not like the sanchez for turner trade, wasn't a fan then and still not a huge fan of it but after all of the great trades DD has made just have to trust him.

I been saying this for the last month. Totally agree with you. But i liked getting infante in the turner trade, only for the reason of having no more raburn at 2B.....speaking of.......havent heard of a raturd update lately.....is he in one of his usual 60 game slumps? Seen inge hit his first HR the other night.

When will they notice phil coke just takes up a roster spot......didnt see the game, but when i seen they lost in xtra innings, i said to myself, i bet coke gave up the runs.....

No use giving a Raburn update here....most of the ones who got upset by them, have me on 'ignore'. (But the Tribe is using him correctly - part time. A few games in the OF, DH, started only 2 games at 2B. He isn't a star....but he has had positive contributions to the Cleveland ballclub.)

After your 'tirade' on cbs gametracker yesterday....I would avoid terms like 'complex', burf. That was sad and pathetic. Those people did not give a crap who I was...and they sure did not have the psycho response you had to any post I made. Man!!!! Take up checkers or pinochle and calm down.

Ryan Perry is not bright. Hard to see that changing weathers he's a starter for the Nats(in their system) or out of the pen.

With DK starting in left Max should have problem getting to 12-0. A homer and two shots to the track in the first didnt hurt his chances any either. This kid for the Rays might get run early...
