Can't say I saw this coming. Maybe now we can actually get a coach that will attempt some plays from under center. Apparently we are going to make Art Briles say no, which I have no problem with if he can bring in a decent DC.

Yeeaaaa....... Cincinnati, the budget shortfall sleeping giant.

Huh?

Cincy is part of the Ohio University System, which has plenty of money. And the athletic department has plenty of money, which they have used to upgrade Nippert Stadium with some of the nation's top facilities.

So, you have a program in the second best prep football city in America with outstanding facilities, going up against a bunch of Big East schools.

It has dynasty written all over it.

I meant a dynasty in the Big East, similar to Boise under Petersen in the WAC/MWC. I seriously think the right coach could average 11 or so wins per year at Cincy.

Do people really still think that I just make stuff up on my own? You make them sound like a diamond in the rough, when they're really just another mid-major program fighting to become sustainable. You talk about facilities, but you need to dig deeper. Also, they aren't even a top revenue earner in the Big East, and even during their best seasons they struggled to put asses in seats.

Your links prove my point, namely by insisting that Cincy was behind on their football facilities until they had a coach (Brian Kelly) who riled up the program enough to get them built. And Mike Thomas is gone to Illinois, so he doesn't really apply anymore. Nippert is a small stadium, but is also a very nice stadium, and they always have the option of going to Paul Brown Stadium for big games.

The coaching budget is a concern (ring a bell?), but if there is a Head Coach who is dedicated to sticking with the program for less money (a la Chris Petersen at Boise), there is no reason they shouldn't dominate the Big East. The second article disses their facilities while admitting that they have brand-new state-of-the-art practice dome and locker room, not to mention a very good weight room.

They'll always lose the very top Cincy guys to Notre Dame and Ohio State, but there is no reason they shouldn't be Chris Borlands and other solid 3 star Southern Ohio guys filling out their roster. With the right coach, and easy schedule (either in the Big East or ACC), I still see it as a school that has the potential for a hell of a lot more wins than Texas Tech.

Forget Briles.

Texas Tech's FIRST call should be to Kliff Kingsbury. Second call should be to Sonny Dikes.

Huh? Being a dynasty in the Big east would be like...being an undefeated heavyweight middle school wrestler who outweighs the next largest competitor in the state by 100lbs. Sure you would win every year, but it is tainted and nobody takes you seriously as a good wrestler.

Besides, being a BE juggernaut is like being...well a MWC juggernaut, nobody outside of Cincinatti (or Boise in this case) really cares..that includes the BCS and NCAA.

And in regards to the links/articles above..

There's also a lot of work to do on the athletic facilities, with little money available.

That article was written days ago. Cincinatti is not a GREAT job and not in great shape. Until they are asked to join one of the other conferences (IF they are) they are dead in the water as a future program of relevance in college football.

Doesn't shock me. Charlie Strong was on the hot seat not too long ago and one great season in the Big East and he gets a shot at head coach in the SEC.

2010 Louisville 7–6 3–4 T–5th W Beef 'O' Brady's
2011 Louisville 7–6 5–2 T–1st L Belk
2012 Louisville 10–2 5–2 T–1st TBD Sugar† 18 22

Why fuck around trying to win in Lubbock/Big 12 when you can work the big east? Plus, everything hasn't gone so smooth off the field out there anyways either.

Exactly, do well in a crappy BE and you'll get a big time gig.

Just like how he left Ole Miss by saying he was committed to the Rebels before going to Auburn. Tech AD said the day before cincy news broke out, Tubbs told him he was staying at Tech.

Guy is a snake.

Cincy might be the best stepping stone of a program.
