I could see Texas as a top ten, even top five team after the way they played last Saturday. Texas is loaded with 5 stars so they are bound to get their act together and put in another great season.

I hate to say it, but recruiting ratings and talent level always plays a small factor in my picks. A team that is recruited well, won't stay down for long. Texas' problem has been their QB but I think they finally found one.

Big12 has 4 really good teams IMO with OU, Texas, KSU, and WVU. The rest of the Big12 will be meh. Okie State is rebuilding and TCU is WAY overrated.

Do you factor in coaching because Gary Patterson and Chris peterson don't recruit as well as Mack brown but they are better coaches than he is

Coaching is pretty damn important. Just look at the Badgers. A year ago our starting LT was projected to go in the first round, and our starting center was predicted to be an all B1G candidate as well as first or second rounder after next season.

This year that whole line looks like shit without Paul Chryst(OC, now HC at Pitt) and Bob Bostad(OL, TE coach + run game coordinator...now at TB Bucs).

John Blake, need I say more? The man could recruit at OU but was the worst damn HC ever...

For sure. Like a year ago Iowas offense was boring and predictable with Ken O'keefe. Now its boring, predictable and inept with Greg Davis....

Perhaps but it is easier for them when they played teams like New Mexico, Wyoming, Rice, etc. every week. TCU is in the big leagues now, wait and see. Utah has had its share of troubles.

I think coaching is as important as talent. I dont think teams like texas should get an advantage over teams like Virginia Tech and Frank Beamer just because the talent they get is better. NC State is out-recruited by Duke but they are consistently competitive. Also, I couldnt even tell you who Utahs coach is, they were good with Urban Meyer though, regardless of their talent level.

I agree coaching is huge but what I was saying is that coaches like Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson haven't had to run the gauntlet of an SEC/Big12 schedule with injuries, etc.

Look at Utah, Kyle Whittingham looks over his head now that he is in the Pac12 and his team is constantly having injuries and other problems that they never had in the MWC.

I think injuries affect a good recruiter, who isnt a great coach, a lot too though. Tom O'Brien doesnt have an issue dealing with injuries. If you have a good coach he is going to be able to work around injuries, and isnt used to having top talent to begin with. This is just my opinion.

I know in the SEC, games come down to depth and sometimes even a play against the top teams. Sure you can beat the Vandys and UKs but to beat Florida or Bama, you have to play flawless, no turnovers and keep your team motivated and playing hard the full game. It always becomes more difficult when you get them in succession.

Take Tennessee's October Schedule. at Georgia, at Mississippi State, Alabama, at South Carolina. Do you think TCU could even win a game in that group? I doubt Tennessee will. Other leagues offer those tough outings as well, including Big12 which is a MAJOR upgrade from the MWC.

The SEC is different than Texas. Nick Saban and Les Miles and Steve Spurrier are all good coaches. Gary Patterson doesnt an advantage over them. They are good recruiters and good coaches. Mack Brown gets great talent, but is not as good of a coach as Saban, Miles, Patterson, or Peterson. IMO. But, I think TCU would be favored against Mrs. State and after they play someone decent Ill let you know if i think they would be competitive against Georgia and/or USC.

Have you seen TCU's last four games? It's going to be brutal compared to what they're used to.
