Breaking? Notre Dame to join ACC

You bolded 'wuss move' and immediately went to scheduling for the current year, not looking at their past history with scheduling or ACC scheduling, specifically. I would call it more of a wuss move because of the revenue sharing even more, or the fact that it looks like ND will be privy to the ACC bowl tie-ins without even being part of the conference in football.

The point of his post was clear (read the first line)...Notre Dame was being wimpy for not joining the ACC. It's a stupid argument and I called it such. The only sidetrack in this thread was you calling that a sidetrack.

Most years ND's schedule is mediocre, I think Smart and 462 cleared this up already, so I'll just jump right to my point.

Like Purdue? Michigan at least has a strong offense. And last time I checked Michigan State still wasn't a scrub. The last 5 years have been out of the ordinary for Michigan.

It doesn't matter until you actually play them whether they are ranked or not, IMO. Notre Shame is a prime example. They almost always start out ranked, but by year end, you can pretty much guarantee that they won't be.

When they load their 'conference' schedule with BC, Pitt, Wake, and Syracuse, I have no problem calling it wimpy. I have a strong feeling VT, Clemson, and FSU may see ND once every 5 or 6 years.

I never said it was, I think BK has done a good job ramping up the schedule strength, and this year they're schedule is quite difficult. I was replying to Smart's claim of them being 'the best' like it's always no question that ND plays a top 5 schedule, which I don't agree with at all.

ND will play each current ACC once every 3 years. I doubt we see a 16th member anytime soon.

I'll give VT credit. They often go out and schedule one really tough game OOC, which is better than most teams. That is still only 25% of their OOC games. Notre Dame routinely schedules that, and in the case of this year, they did double that.

Since you're looking at ND's entire schedule (you have to, they're all OOC) we'll look at VT's entire schedule as well

I don't think they have access to our BCS bowl tie-ins ... but yeah -- I'd agree with that jeffro. That's the ringer. And I'd be interested to see how the money works with that. If ND reps the ACC in a bowl, does the ACC get screwed out of the bowl money? If so, that's fucked up. I'd be interested to see how the voting on this breaks down by school.

Correct, they only have access to the non-BCS bowl tie-ins. I almost bet that the ACC already has another top tier bowl in the works, such as Cotton, Cap One, Gator or Outback.

"We are able to maintain our historic independence in football, join in the ACC's non-BCS bowl package, and provide a new and extremely competitive home for our other sports."

What do you want to bet that their "historic independence" keeps them out of the playoffs? Even playing 5 ACC schools won't be enough to satisfy the other conferences to give ND a pass like they got for the BCS.
