This? ... Cole Hamels and Phillies continue to work towards a deal that sounds like could end up at approximately 6 yrs and in the $142-$144m range
Should be no surprise if they tie him up ... question is who is getting Lee so they can pay for it.
I sit Kinsler and Young rest of the series and start Gonzalez and Snyder both days. Putting Gentry in Kinsler's spot with Gonzalez in Gentry's ... Snyder in #5.
Also ... this team needs a mean ass Bob Gibson on the mound.
In poker you rarely win if turning in 3 cards and hoping to draw a winner. Rule usually is too that you only make one deal at the deadline for the one piece you are missing.
This time I want Lee, Ruiz, and Scutaro ... really shake stuff up.
Otherwise ... I am about the same spot as Romeo is ... tune out until mid August.
Lee, Ruiz, and Scutaro is my exact wish list as well. A bulldog no-nonsense ace starting pitcher with playoff experience, a massive upgrade at catcher who brings stability to the position, and a very solid veteran contact hitter who can play multiple positions.
I'd be very confident going into the playoffs with Lee, Harrison, Lewis, Darvish, and/or Oswalt in the rotation. 5 hard-nosed competitors right there. I'd take a tough-as-nails no-nonsense veteran like Lee, Lewis, or Oswalt over immature mental midgets like Holland and Feliz in the playoffs 10 times out of 10.

Anyone think lee will be available?
The Angels know how to hit balls thrown right down the middle. Our guys, outside of Andrus, Beltre, and Gentry don't have a clue. I've about had it with Kinsler and Hamilton especially. Any time you guys want to start playing like team leaders and all-stars is fine with me.
still think the Rangers make a move on getting Justin Upton from the Diamondbacks
Moving Lee is how PHL affords to resign Hamels.
Where did you hear that from?
You're absolutely right!!! I've said this about josh for a lomg time. If the pitcher throws his pitch in hamiltns's swing path well then josh is going to hit it a mile. However, if the pitch isn't on hamilton's swing plain...well, forget it, we see slumps like he's had since June first. Bottom line, he either isn't capable of making swing adjustments or he thinks he's too good to need to make them.
I've come to the unpopular conclusion that trading him would be the best way to make this team better. Get a shit load for him before the break and then we can watch him swing and miss for the dodgers or Yankees and laugh.

Earlier there were reports that they can't afford Lee and Hamels (based on the expected cost of resigning him). They have gone all out now to sign him which means they may already have a commitment from someone to take on Lee's salary.
There may be another part of the deal that isn't done yet ... but in the meantime (such as a player being acquired from another team that completes the deal).
In any case ... reportedly PHL has now stopped trade talks and are working to sign Hamels.
Everything anyone in the press says or we say here is speculation. And I don't think much of Jim Bowden's credibility ... but he tweeted last night: "Cole Hamels and Phillies continue to work towards a deal that sounds like could end up at approximately 6 years and in the $142-$144m range." That sounds like pretty exact numbers.
If Hamel's contract goes up from $15mil to roughly $23mil ... that jumps next year's payroll already bulging at $172mil up to $180mil. It was $138mil in 2010. If they give Hamels $8mil more ... they still have not addressed Joe Blanton (who gave them reason to not renew Oswalt) or Victorino. End of next year they have to deal with Utley and Pence.
Something has got to give ... and moving Lee and his contract gives them room to work. Not just to resign Hamels ... but to deal with Blanton and Victorino potentially too.
That's what I meant when I said "Moving Lee is how PHL affords to resign Hamels."
Maybe ... but not sure getting a guy who with his performance this year you would bat 6th or lower does for getting you to the post season.
who's to say that that performance doesn't change with the team the Rangers can put around him and also consider that he's a positive next season if Hamilton walks and the Rangers let Cruz walk.
