The last thing I really feel like is thinking about the NHL right now so I watched an older Sam Rockwell movie called "Safe Men". There was a ton of NHL products in the movie and the Stanley Cup made an appearance and was a plot point.

from today's Cheap Throat
Cheap Throat: The Diary of a Locked-Out NHLer, Day 35 | The Barnstormer
(I am less convinced that it is a real NHLer, btw)

I love the boys, and we’re known for taking care of our own. But the Fehrs come from MLB. They’re fucking outsiders. They’re in a dick measuring contest with Weasel Penis (Bettman) and Bald-Face Liar (Daly). Don’t think they give much a fuck about the players.

now sure if anyone is still following the cheap throat journal, but yesterday's was hilarious

Bolland apologizes for the retweet of wanting Bettman dead, O'Neill claims he he was victimized by a hacker (lol)

Blackhawks F Bolland apologetic for 'Bettman dead' retweet

i thought these guys had balls. fuck they are little cowards. they cant take the heat that comes with those comments. so cowardly to not take responsibility for that. but I guess this is what is happening no one side is being accountable for anything so stuff like this just gets washed aside. I dont care about the Oneill one that is harmless. the bolland one was pure stupid. he meant to retweet it. fuck these guys. get off twitter if you cant control yourself

Why does he begin so many sentences with to be honest? Is he not being honest when he doesn't say that?

Time to decertify and say the league didn't bargain fair in the CBA negotiations and didn't offer those contracts in the past year in good faith either.

To be honest, I don't know why he does that.

to be honest, Boss is correct. its a strange thing.

also if they decertify does that blow up the rosters in the league and it becomes highest bidder gets whatever player they go for?

“If I was a company being courted by the NHL today, or if I was advising a company being courted, I would be concerned,” said Michael Neuman, the managing partner at Scout Sports and Entertainment, the agency for Geico, which has league sponsorship rights, and around 20 complementary NHL team deals. “The current commissioner [Gary Bettman, commissioner since 1993] has three work stoppages under his belt.”

Sponsors have clauses in their NHL contracts granting relief in the event of a work stoppage, reportedly after at least one quarter of the 82-game regular season is not played. Two weeks ago, MolsonCoors, the NHL’s largest sponsor, cited the lockout as one reason for lagging beer sales in Canada. The brewer said it will ask for financial compensation when the lockout ends.

This is just another example of how remarkably foolish this lockout is for everyone. It's not even just shortsighted, the half of the foolishness which this article points out. It hurts in both present (obviously) and future. These men are billionaires, and yet they cannot see how foolish a business decision this is? I have a feeling many, perhaps even most, of the owners realize how bad an idea this lockout has been from the start, but their hands are tied by Bettman and the few owners who think this whole thing is for the best.

$182 million over five years and you can't agree on a new CBA?!? That's barely a little over a million dollars per team per year. It's not the finances that is stopping a deal from being signed.

By the way, I'm with esls, I think the NHLPA should file for decertification. Just blow it up and let's start from scratch. This season for all intents and purposes is over anyway.
