They would have traded out of the #1. The Jags traded up and there would have been scramblers looking to get Carter. He might have been tough to pass on, but I think he was way too tempting for someone not to make a multi-pick offer, including a 2026 first rounder. Patriots would still have Campbell but they would have had an extra second or third round pick also.

From the way things look right now, this draft was a gold mine.
Don't judge a mine before you dig it. In football terms, wait until games are played.

Right now things look great!

Hopefully even better by the end of December.
I agree on paper the Pats had the best offseason of any team, but they needed that. What's on paper looks great, now it's time to see it on the field. 8+ wins is my mark, I think 10 are possible

Winning the offseason is never the goal.

But it's a good place to start momentum!

I disagree. It should always be a goal. It's how that goal is validated that matters. Winning games, playoff games and championships is how that's validated.

I know this is what you meant, otherwise you'd be thinking "Y-E-T-S,yet's, yets, yets".

Actually, I was thinking about the Jets. They won the offseason a good number or years.

And nothing else after.

IMO. This draft was a gold mine because it's already yielding stiff competition and has put a shitty 2024 team on notice that there is a new sherriff in town and he's brought a bunch of new deputies.

Drafted and UDFA are already making impressions and the Boston media have stated that Efrom Chisolm and Lan Larison may have already cemented spots on the 53 man roster.

Well it's a bit premature of the media to assume anyone has secured a roster spot, especially UDFA Rookies.

The Pats were 3 and 13 last year with a fourth exhibition game at the end of the year. Is the bar really "find stiff competition" for players that lost that many games? Did they go into the draft thinking "Let's find stiff competition for Verderian Lowe?". How about "Maybe Rhomondre might fumble less if we can find some stiff competiton". My favorite draft plan "We need players almost as good as the ones we had last year who won 3 games - stiff competition will cure the problem".
