There have been plenty of great QB's that never pulled their team across the finish line, there have been plenty of top notch WR's that have won the SB. It takes a team and coaching staff...and sometimes luck.
I always thought Dan Morino lacked a good coach. Pompous Shula replaced competent Shula in the early 80s.

Marino could beat the bad team the entire season. He wilted when he had to go up against the iron. But it wasn't just Marino, he always had a couple of other guys that fouled themselves.

Jim Kelly was the same. Incredible regulars season and then losing four Super Bowls in a row.

Sadly, great QBs are remembered more for their losses than their wins. A few exceptions are Montana and Brady, because they did win the big ones when their backs were against a wall.

I honestly don't think Kelly folded.

He just went against NFC powerhouses in their heyday.

I feel the difference is a diva WR maybe gets 10 touches a game. The QB touches the ball on every snap minus a trick play. I'd put my money on the QB if I had to choose. Plus there are a lot more "great" WRs in the league vs QBs.

That's the thing, you don't get to choose. A good WR can make any team better, especially when a QB can't elevate other players.

The choice I was referring to was salary. If you want a top tier QB you have to pay. NE is a perfect example that you don't need overpriced diva WRs to win it all. If you invest in both a top $ QB and WR there will be other holes on the roster that will get exploited.

And they each play their part.
Is NFL QB the hardest position in Sports? NHL Goalie maybe?
But each has to do their part.

Hostetler won a super bowl. Brad Johnson. Trent Dilfer. Eli and Ben both won 2 on pure lick and the WR's on those teams won't be on any "Greatest List" either.

Moss and Welker didn't win any, but Edelman won 3. And any QB needy team would draft a college junior named Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Boomer Esiason or Dan Marino long before they drafted Edelman.

My point being it takes a team and a coaching staff that clicks. Even Cam Mustnotrevoverthefumble Newton got to the SB.

As we have all said and repeated at least one thousand times, Football is a team sport. QBs get singled out for INTs that are often not close to being their fault. QBs get repeatedly sacked and often get an injury to their hand, arm or leg and refuse to sit and watch an important game. The opposing team finds a weakness and exploits it and the entire defense takes the hit.

As you said, teams also face a powerhouse in their heyday and that's completely ignored.

Then again, there are the one and dones that have their career day on a game played in February and get the one thing that eludes great QBs for their entire careers..........championship jewelry.

Agreed. More to my point was that Kelly didn't "Fold". Wide right was not a Kelly folding. Neither was the 52-17 ass whooping Dallas put on them. Nobody was going to beat Dallas in '92. Did Grogan fold in against the Bears? No, he gave it everything he had to give.

The NFC won every Super Bowl between the Raiders winning it all in the '83 season and the Broncos finally breaking the streak for the '97 season.
San Fran won 4 of them, Dallas won 3, New York and Washington each won 2, and Chicago and Green Bay won 1 apiece.

Pro Motocross. If you do the best that's humanly possible, you're in 10th place.
2nd most physically demanding sport but it is much more demanding if you want top ten.
Skill level is out of this world
