That's true, but we've already seen this kid in a high pressure spot and he played well. I think thats different than the folks touring Sanders because he's completing passes against air or firemen and waiters

Exactly. You and I can throw against air, it's how do you handle it when the bullets are flying. I didn't watch the Falcons' games that I recall, but I also don't recall anybody trashing his performance. Not that I'd put too much stock in their reporting as it's awfully early to know for sure. That's why I will wait to make any kind of judgement.

He has played, though.

Im also not sold on him being elite but i don't blame Falcon fans for wanting to be optimistic

If I was a Falcons' fan I'd want him to be awesome also and don't really blame them for wanting that. However I am always a wait and see guy as opposed to making dumb proclamations before we see what is real and what is nonsense.

This is very true and a large part of boards like the hoop.

The worst part for me is a fan telling you win totals before a season starts.

The worst for me is ridiculous homerism from my own teams fan base. Nothing is more irritating to me than the thread that Love is a future HOer before he actually played an NFL season. If we're honest about it, the guy played in 1 regular season game and nobody knows what the guy really is. At this point I'm still not really sure if he's it or not. Is he a competent starter and can he win games, sure, is he great, I'm not sure and so far I don't know. That's something he needs to prove and all the noise means nothing until he brings home the obelisk, if he does that, I'll be happy.

Cowboy fans are a little different these days.
We're on to 2026 and playing another 3rd place schedule.

Who knows for sure? The talent level across the NFL isn't that much different and you have a QB. That seems to be the difference for my lifetime, a QB and competent D, a few bounces go your way and suddenly you're playing for a title. It's a strange game and sometimes shit just works out.

At least that seems to me the case for the competent organizations...and that's something that is key, a competent organization

Obviously I don’t know for sure how Penix will do or how good he’ll be, but he was solid in his 3 starts at the end of last season and I was very impressed with him in college. And we’ve got a lot of talent on O around him so all of the pieces are in place. I’m not just saying I think he’ll be strong because I’m a Falcons fan

I'm a Penix fan and rooting for him, the biggest criticism I've heard about him his tendency to want throw long and the comp they gave for him is Jameis Winston. Hopefully that is way off, but time will tell.

Or for a good part of fans including quite a few on here...

I'm not sure many of these over the top homers aren't 13 or joined when there were teenagers and just never grew up.

If you are calling me an “over the top homer”, well that’s just not true. Yeah I’m more optimistic about the Falcons than I’ve been in a while but I’m not some blindly optimistic homer. Yeah I think Penix will be good, I liked him a lot in college and I was impressed with his 3 starts last season, and I think we should have a winning record and be a playoff contending team, but I don’t think that’s being an “over the top homer” - we have a solid roster. I think I have the right to be hopeful about our team, especially after 7 straight losing seasons, I think we’ve turned the corner.

I didn't direct that at you specifically, but there are some here that just can't help themselves.

Definitely should be in the mix. I thought All was going to win the division last season. Who replaces Dalman? I'm guessing in addition to Penix the keys for Atlanta are probably having a top OL again and hitting on at least one and hopefully both of those rookie pass rushers?

I really liked their draft. I love Walker and thought he was top 5-8 player and I also love the Notre Dame Safety. I am not as high on Pearce as some but obviously they loved him enough to trade up and grab him.

Ryan Neuzil will likely be the starting center, he’s been pretty good in the games he’s started, the O-Line looks strong - Lindstrom and Bergeron as starting guards and McGary and Matthews at tackle, it should be a good O-Line again. We have a lot of offensive talent - Bijan is a stellar RB and Allgeier is good enough to start on some teams, and at receiver London is excellent, Mooney is very good, McCloud is a solid WR3, and while Pitts has been a disappointment he’s not a bad TE and might improve with more consistent QB play. All of the pieces are in place for Penix to thrive and I think he’ll be good, but only time will tell how strong he’ll be.

I loved our draft as well, I think Watts was a steal in the 3rd round and I was surprised Walker fell to 15 and I like Pearce as well and was fine with the trade up to get him. I think our edge rush, which has been our weakness the last few years, will be much better with the additions of Pearce and Walker plus Leonard Floyd, plus last year’s 3rd round pick Bralen Trice who missed his rookie season with an injury might make an impact, and hopefully Ebiketie takes another step forward like he did last year. My main concern on the roster is corner, Terrell is good but I find Hughes/Phillips/Alford to be kind of shaky.

We might’ve won the division last year if Cousins had stayed healthy or if Raheem had started Penix earlier instead of keeping Cousins out there. We almost won it anyway, had we won the last 2 games, both of which went to OT, we would’ve won the division. We were much more competitive last season than at any point in the Arthur Smith era, we beat the Super Bowl champion Eagles at home, we almost beat the other Super Bowl team the Chiefs, and other than the OT loss in week 18 to the Panthers and the loss on the road to the Saints which started our free fall, all of the other losses were against teams that made the playoffs. We were very close to a playoff appearance last season. Maybe it’s for the best though that the Cousins experiment is over, I’ve never fully trusted him and I think Penix has the potential to be far better than Cousins.

Anyway, there’s no way of knowing how good we’ll be really, but it’s fun to speculate and I am excited for this season, and I think we should be a playoff contending team and on paper I think we may be a bit better than the Bucs. We host the Bucs week 1 in ATL, that will be a hell of a way to start the season. I can’t wait for football

Penix is 1-2 as a starter. I doubt that 6-11 will get the Falcons into the playoffs.
