Whether one buys the conspiracy theories or not...the biggest issue is that it doesn't accomplish the stated goal of stopping tanking. The play in tournament actually does more to stop tanking, but even that is only with about 4 or 5 teams in each conference.

They need to just set limits

Either who can move up

Or you can’t be in the move up back to back years (so you pick too 4 this year you can’t next year, you’d pick no better than 5 the following year) or some combination of limits

Also if you are ever above the tax line during the year you should not be able to move up lol

Teams that win such a tournament are better than the teams that lose, so such a tournament is counter intuitive to building the worst franchises back up.

It will only be the worst teams tanking. The current model supports teams on the fringe of the playoffs losing late for that lottery ticket.

IMO, the ideal model is to slot the non-playoff teams by a 3 year aggregate record.

It's funny how the NFL doesn't have a lottery and just simply has less tanking.

The worst teams this year we actually bad and deluded themselves into thinking they were playoff contenders, and yet they picked 1-3 instead.

The NFL actually has teams winning late in the season to hurt their position at the top of the draft each year.

It's not a perfect comparison though, as one elite NBA player can swing a team's fortunes faster than a single NFL player, even QBs. That one player can account for up to 1/6 of the court time each game (40 min of a total 240 available for the entire team), so there's a bigger opportunity for impact.

The owners watch the value of their franchises go up and they thank Silver for rigging the drafts to build up the league.

One thing that is certain is that the people peddling the "lottery is rigged" nonsense have no idea how the NBA actually operates.

Harming their small market teams just to help out the big market teams goes against their own self interest. The NBA wants all of their teams to do well.

There just isn't enough incentive for the league to take the huge risk of rigging the lottery. WHY would they do it? People really think that the NBA pressured Harrison, against his own wishes, to trade Luka to the Lakers? Really? I hate the Lakers as much as any other normal human does but it's absurd to think that the league only cares about helping them.

There are certainly times when the league will pressure teams to do what they want. But that is a far cry from rigging the lottery.

Don't recall the specific years but were many lotteries where we heard before them league will rig it for LA or NY.......but didn't.
