Any other NFL team had a future HOF coach, future HOF QB, and two future HOF RBs like the Packers had at the same time?

Most people have a problem with Namath in the hall, but I've always pointed towards Horning and Jurgensen as less deserving than Joe Willie and 1969.

It's pretty interesting to me that from 1955 to 1967 Alabama had 3 pro football HOFers...Starr, Namath and Stabler. That is freaking incredible. As an added bonus, in Starr's senior year Alabama went 0-10.

Wow.

You can't tell the NFL story without the Packers and Starr was the on field general.

First book I read twice was Instant Replay, and my Cowboys were mentioned throughout. lol
BUT I found out I loved Pro Football from Kramer's book.

It's interesting the Landry and Lombardi were assistants for the Giants and both got hired from that staff. What's even more interesting is if the Cowboys win those 2 title games, it's probably called the Landry trophy. Both of those games basically were decided in the last minute and the Packers made a play on D in the first one and O on the 2nd...pretty much the entire difference that shaped the NFL from that point forward.

One last thing. In an interview Kramer was talking about a banquet that he and Alex Karras both attended and were speakers. During his speech Karras mentioned that Kramer was the best guard in football and if you didn't believe that all you had to do was read his book for proof from Kramer himself. Big chuckle from the crowd. Later Kramer is speaking and he thanks Karras for buying his book and then asks who read it to him.

I read the newspaper account of when Notre Dame played Pitt in 1956 and the Pittsburgh writers wrote about Hornung is absolute glowing terms which you don't often see for a visiting team's player. He played quarterback, ran the football, punted, placekicked, and made a bunch of tackles on defense as well.

These were his pathetic stats from his Heisman winning season of '56. It's a complete joke.

passing: 59-111 (53.2%) 917 yards 3 TD's / 13 int's

rushing: 94- 420 (4.5 yards per carry) 6 TD's

receiving: 3 catches for 26 yards no TD's

9 total TD's with 13 int.'s and only averaged 136.3 yards per game. :pound:

HOF center Jim Ringo blocked for Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor in Green Bay and Ollie Matson in Philadelphia.

My bad on that, should have been more specific. When I found that NFL trivia question the answer is an OL that played his entire career with one team. Didn't know about Ringo or I would have said one team only.

Hornung in the HOF is a joke.

He was a running back that never lead his team in rushing.

Najee Harris had a bit of a disappointing rookie contract for Pittsburgh to the point where they let him walk to SanDiego this offseason. In those 4 years he has more yards rushing than Hornung had in his entire career and only a couple hundred less receiving yards.

Hornung was praised for his versatile because he was also the teams kicker. But he was a career UNDER 50% FG kicker.

And the cherry on top is that he should have been banned for life from the sport for betting on football.

And all that got him into the HOF. Ridiculous.
Vince Lombardi had high regard for Paul Hornung, describing him as "the greatest player I ever coached" and "the greatest I've ever seen on the football field within the 20-yard line." Lombardi also noted that Hornung was "the best all-around back ever."

I'm going to go with Vince over you ducky on this one.

All for a team that sucked.

I have always heard that Forrest Gregg was the greatest player Lombardi ever coached. Came across this as I was checking into it...

The 1961 Packers had the most hall of famers playing together in one season. 11 players and 1 Hall of fame coach.
