Were the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles the best team of the decade thus far?

Someday, there will be a discussion on which team was the best of the '20s. I'm eliminating all but one team from teams before 2024. Capiche? Or is that too hard to comprehend? You want to create a post on which team was the best of the '10s? Feel free to do so.
Its going to be obvious in a few years because the Eagles are a young team. If they dont get back to the SB it would be shocking.

The Eagles beat the Ravens soundly in the regular season last year, which the score maybe didn't fully reflect. I was honestly surprised, they were more physical.

As for the OP, I think a case can be made for Philly but it is probably the Bucs with that Brady team IMO.

I might have to watch that game because you guys only had 252 yards all game. I know on the Kelce podcast they mentioned the Eagles looking like a champion that game

The young defense is what emerged in that game, plays like this by rookie Cooper DeJean against Derrick Henry in the open field. It was one of the games where you started to see the makings of a championship caliber defense.

When you have rookie slot corners doing stuff like this, against Derrick Henry no less, things are looking good!

Yeah I think their best football is still in front of them. I think the biggest threat to muck up the operation would be the retirement of older key assistants Fangio and Stoudtland.

On our little semantic discussion, "best team of the decade so far" clearly connotes the 2020s. I am not sure what the OP meant to say, but that's what he said.
I just think the Pats are desperate for anything at this point. They know it’s over.

I actually think the Pats are trending upwards now, Vrabel is a good coach, I think Maye is a promising QB and they made a lot of improvements this offseason, I think the Pats are the second best team in their division going into this season and I wouldn’t be shocked if they contended for a playoff slot. The Pats have been crap since Brady left but I think they are finally going in the right direction now.

Personally, I'm generally under the assumption that when the dust settles and the playoffs start every year you have about 5 teams that can actually win it all. The Eagles window is wide ass open for them to be one of the 5 teams for probably the next 3 years minimum just due to the nature of rookie contracts assuming they stay healthy. If the 2024 Eagles are the best team in recent memory then they still have a lot of juice left in them.

We will see but history isn’t on their side. That was a pretty terrible franchise before Brady and they’re back to being the Pats. They got lucky finding the GOAT in the 6th round and he was exceptional.

With the exception of Goedert and the RG job that someone will have to earn, the Eagles have 9 offensive starters locked up through 2027 or maybe 2028. I thought the defense was a year ahead of schedule last year. They’re very young on that side of the ball. Some guys will have to fill bigger roles next year so we have to see how they handle that.

This position feels so weird. Don’t think I’ve been here as a sports fan since Notre Dame in 1987. It was pretty clear that Holtz with Vinny Cerato recruiting was going to have them always in the mix. Probably should have felt this way with Andy Reid from 2001-04 but they never won the big one.

I don’t think the history of a team matters really, I don’t put any relevance on a franchise’s history when I look at how I think they’ll do in the coming season. I like what the Pats have pretty good and I think they can contend for a playoff spot this season, they look like the second best team in the AFC East coming in to 2025.

But isn’t second place in the AFC East essentially a tallest midget contest of late?

Yes but I could see the Pats contending for a spot in the playoffs this season, not saying they’ll make it, just saying I could see them being in the race. The Bills should dominate the AFC East once again.

Eagles won by 5 points and the Ravens outgained them by 120 yards. I dont think thats enough to notice that the Chiefs and Skins were punching way above their weight
The Eagles allowed a garbage TD.

Yeah, I was almost not going to say anything. As for that last bit, the Bucs lost twice to the Saints, the Rams, the Chiefs, and the Bears.
