I think Davis had a good year last year. At the same time, look at what transpired with Milton Williams contract. You shouldn’t need to pay a guy big money to play next to Jalen Carter. You just need to continue to draft and develop legitimate pros and they’ll feast playing next to the attention Carter demands. The Eagles should always be looking OL and DL in every draft. It would be malpractice for them to come into next year with just Carter Davis and 7th round pick Moro Ojomo (who I happen to like a lot). This is Davis decision year for the fifth year option. DT has gotten so expensive that Davis may not be worth the 5th year option.

I kind of like this situation. Davis is clearly playing this season for his livelihood. That usually bodes well for performance when guys are incentivized in this way.
Davis for Mazi :heh:

I don't expect you will exercise the 5th year option. But that doesn't mean you won't resign him of course. Hard to give $13M per to a guy who doesn't impact the passing game and plays less than 50% of snaps. But if you don't draft another DT (I'm not too familiar with Ojomo but I didn't think he was a 1 tech?) I bet he is resigned. I mean why wouldn't you unless he thinks he is going to get a lot more elsewhere?

Good to see the Eagles get ahead of yet another contract issue by signing Cam Juergens to a contract extension. The Eagles return 10 out of 11 offensive starters, and most other than Dallas Goeddert are under contract for several years to come.
Who got more? Jurgens or Dickerson?

Was never a Mazi guy but appreciate the joke. Davis has just never developed the hands he needs to rush the passer. Gun to my head, the Eagles don’t resign him. Ojomo got limited reps last year but had a really high pressure rate. He can play 1,3,5 tech. Hes going into season 3 but is only 23. He was one of the youngest guys in the draft in 2023.

And I want to double down on what I said before…with the attention Carter gets the Eagles don’t need an All Pro there to get All Pro production.

Dickerson got more, which makes sense because he has been All Pro and went to multiple Pro Bowls since being drafted. Juergens has only been to one Pro Bowl thus far. Both are Pro Bowl caliber linemen though! If the Eagles can solidify RG, they will have a stud OL for years to come. They already have Tyler Steen who was pretty decent at that spot, but I could see them upgrading there.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I hope they draft another Dillard in the first round...

Yeah I want to see them draft or sign someone who can push Steen. I think that if you give Stoudtland enough bullets he’s going to grow a guy at that position. They signed two back up guys in bringing back Toth and signing Lamm to be the swing guy. Your back up center (Dickerson) is also the starting guard. They need another body on the interior to push Steen. I’d like a prospect though that they see long term as a RT type. I know that Lane Johnson says he wants to play 2-3 more years but he has a PED history. He’s getting older. His career can disappear in a second if he gets another bad test. Think they need to start thinking about the replacement as soon as this draft.

Almost forgot about that guy. They survived that big whiff because they found a rugby player in round 7 in Mailota.

Some Philly cap mgt insight

I would also add to this - culture. The guys that they sign to contracts have been very willing to restructure so that the next teammate can get paid. And of course…point one kicks in - Lurie is willing to give players a few million more for the convenience of renegotiating.

Lurie is a wise business man. This area is crazy about football and the Eagles. 3 Super Bowls in 8 years and 2 trophies gives him a license to print money in this area. Any ancillary thing the Eagles put their name on draws big participation and support.

I'm not sure it would be the wisest choice given their other needs, but if Philly got a guy like Tyler Booker at right guard at 32, the offensive line could enter historic territory as a great unit. It's already a great unit, but could be in the conversation for greatest ever if they could add one more Pro Bowl caliber guy. Mailata has some lapses in pass pro but is probably Pro Bowl caliber at this point, and Dickerson, Juergens and Johnson clearly are. Johnson is starting to decline but is still arguably a top 5 RT.

My hope at 32 is a trade down. The thing Eagles fans should hope for is Jaxon Dart not going to the Steelers at 21 and he is still there at 32. The first round contract provides a 5th year option. Teams really value having that 5th year option in their back pocket in evaluating the QB so much so that you might get an overpay there. If they stay at 32 I just want them to take BPA among OL DL DB TE

I forgot about Green from the Texans. Maybe he is this year’s Beckton.

Also…my earlier post I said Toth instead of Pryor haha. I can’t tell the difference between my deep sub former Eagles OL guys.

wait, you mean this isn't the way to do it?

I'm still trying to figure out how paying more is getting it right in a cap world
The man's eyes sum up the state of how he has driven this thing into the ground the last few years...

Signing Micah now or whenever he ultimately signs instead of in December has cost us a minimum $5M per against the cap. Same for Dak and almost as much for CeeDee. That's a Pro Bowl player's salary just for waiting too long to sign 3 guys that he never considered not signing

Jerry still playing the cap game wrong, and refusing to admit he was wrong, LOL.

Did he "get it right" signing Dak late to a huge contract?

On trading down, I also think it would be a good move for the Eagles, but unless a QB falls, it doesn't seem likely because there are far fewer teams looking to move up and than down in the late first round of this draft. I could see them stand pat and take the best player available, a DE like a Nic Scourton of A&M, or even trade up to snag one of the edge rushers if an elite one like Mikel Williams of Georgia is still there in the early 20s.
