I don't know about "ripped"...but some folks questioned why they wouldn't do what they had to do to keep him. Especially since he had better availability than Kawhi (not that either of them were exactly in danger of leading the league in minutes played lol).

They also questioned why not let them both go and start the rebuild (I know I was one that questioned that).

If Jordan played today, he would be shooting a lot more 3s and a lot less midrange.

Great midrange shooters still take shots from those areas today. Guys like SGA, Embiid DeRozan, etc. But it isn’t as common because you really need to hit above 50% of those shots and most players can’t do that.

League average on mid range jumpers is (and always has been) in the low 40s.

Jordan and Malone would still shoot midrange today because they were a lot better than average from those spots.

But you are deluding yourself if you think they wouldn’t be shooting more 3s also.

Very lazy to stand around the arc where the defense is loosest. I won't expect you to get it. The defense tightens up the closer you get to the hoop.
