2014 is already 11 years in the rearview. Only players I know of that are even signed to professional contracts from that team are Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Strickland.Might be hard to believe, but it does not look like there are any currently active players in the majors from the Giants' championship run. Brandon Crawford, Adam Duvall, and Matt Duffy appeared in the majors last season, but the latter two have not latched on with new teams.
Must be why the Giants didn’t even make an attempt to keep him.
The back of his baseball card tells you a lot.Must be why the Giants didn’t even make an attempt to keep him.
I think they probably just felt he wasn’t a great investment. The fact that he came into camp in such horrible shape and them refused to take the ball in his last scheduled start told the team all they needed to know.Must be why the Giants didn’t even make an attempt to keep him.
I agree 100%, I’m glad they listened to me.I think they probably just felt he wasn’t a great investment. The fact that he came into camp in such horrible shape and them refused to take the ball in his last scheduled start told the team all they needed to know.
He is not a personality you want on a board line contending team. The Giants are an org still trying to build their identity and to establish a good culture in the dugout. Having THAT guy does not help that goal.
For me it was the refusal to take the mound on our last game. Damn ... he was paid 30M for that season and then we had another 30M due to him after the opt out. About 60M for a player who really didn’t want to be here ... a truly horrible investment ....I think they probably just felt he wasn’t a great investment. He is a beast of a pitcher WHEN HE WANTS TO BE. There is no question about that. I just seriously question his commitment. I think that now that he has the big contract, he is not going the extra mile. For me it was the refusal to take the mound on our last game. What happened to him? He did great (I thought, at least) in his one season with us, and then he had his spat with FZ and he has spiraled since.![]()

Maybe he let that distract him too much and it became a derailer instead of a motivator (pressure was too much to prove FZ wrong)? Otherwise, I could speculate a hundred different ways and have no clue what really happened. It seems that he's constantly having to prove he is good enough to be a regular in the big leagues and it may have finally collapsed him. What happened to him? I missed that he moved to the outfield…![]()
