Mike Giardi decided not to go to the Super Bowl, but is staying in touch with everyone he knows.

"This is the time of year when a lot of garbage is thrown out for everyone to discuss and spend hours and hours of wasted time speculating on things that will never happen." Then he took a deep breath. "I was talking with a friend and was told that Josh Mcdaniels has spent the past year completely reworking he entire defensive schematic." Then he went on to say that McDaniels and Vrabel have stayed in close touch in case either got a job. Josh's offense had a little bit of West Coast, Charlie Weiss, Bill Walsh and a very complex language. Vrabel convinced him to simplify the language and and create more disguised motion.

As a result, Josh has taken parts of the West Coast, the Shanahan motion and the TB12 aspect and spent hundreds of hours designing and redesigning his new offense.

Giardi was told, "You're going to be shocked at what he's done. It's almost as if he's built this offense for Drake Maye."

Think whatever you want. Whoever this person is, he's sold that Josh will not be forcing Drake Mye to ingest and digest the complicated offense that he and Brady worked for so many years. This person must know JM pretty wel and has seen the wrinkles and changes he's made to his scheme. Giardi seemed to be holding something back, yet was thoroughly impressed with the information that he was given.

Needless to say, OTAs and Mini-Camps could be really exciting.

The Krafts are Cheap. Combined NFL Cap 2021-2024 = $398.7M Patriots Cap spending = $397.1M

Then why are the Patriots where they are?

1. As good as Bill Belichick was as a coach, he was a poor GM at drafting.

2. Bill Belichick had a reputation of moving on from a player before his demise. What no one saw was that BB never paid a player a second ontract except Tom Brady. Examples? Deion Branch, Logan Mankins, Joe Thuney, Hightower, several others. BB didn't believe in apying the going rates for certain positions, especially the OL and WR.

3. Robert Kraft backed away from BB's decisions because of the 3 Super Bowl trophies in 2001,2003 and 2004 and how two completely AFU catches kept 4 and 5 from the trophy case. Even Kraft sort of admitted that he never doubted BB's personnel decisions and when things started turning back around in 2014 he clammed up again.

Some interesting things are starting to come to light as Kraft was trying to answer the charge of being cheap.

The shocking thing? "Don't be surprised if we roll over a large amount of money to be used in 2026. I think we'll be much better this year and we will need some extra cash to sign free agents next year."

The second shock? "We offered Chris Godwin a blank check and he walked away to stay in Tampa Bay. We offered Stanley $25M as the starting point and he chose to stay in Baltimore. I will pay whatever Mike thinks a player should be paid. End of story."

Thoughts???

I think BB was a shitty GM and that's why we are where we are. Is or was Kraft being cheap? The amount of revenue generated from winning is pretty significant so I can't imagine he didn't want to win. Perhaps he was being cheap last year Mayo never stood a chance, but in hindsight I feel we got the right coach and they are damn sure spending this year.

I can never blame player if they want to stay at home I get that. Not all players are greedy whores some might just want to give the team a cap friendly deal just so they do not have to uproot their whole family. Not like we haven't seen that.

We can move down this year as far as ten and still get a decent LT RB and WR as well as more picks next year. This is a marathon not a sprint so saving money for next year makes perfect sense

Kraft didn't come right out and say, but I think he was implying that Bill had way too much authority and could overrule any suggestion. I think Bill was also vengeful. If he had an issue with someone, no matter how good a suggestion that person might make, BB would ignore it or slough it off as not worth discussing. BB also had positions that he just would not recognize until there was so much pressure to do something that he couldn't ignore it. Then he'd do something stupid like drafting N'Keal Harry instead of DK Metcalf. Of course, Metcalf was considered too big and too muscular to be a WR by most 'experts'. That and BB liked to go against the grain and get the media's underwear pulled completely up their crack.

No question that he was a great coach. But even there, BB would not bring in specialty coaches and forced his coordinators to take an expand role. He did believe that Scar was the artist that could mold a lump of clay into a priceless vase. On the other hand, he made Weiss and McDaniels both be the QB coach because he believed that they could also burn their offense into the QB's head and prevent game breakdowns.

Of course, we'll never really know what went on behind those doors in private meetings.

Not true. Crappy at drafting WR's. Otherwise I believe his hit/miss record is no better or worse than any other GM and probably better at some positions.
Also not true. Gronk, McCourty, Jonathan Jones, Wilfork, Slater, Edelman, Gostkowski, Light, Chung, Mason, Andrews...The list goes on.
And on.
The other area that BB had success was bringing in "washed up" vets to fill specialty roles or that could still contribute at a high level. The list there goes on forever as well. From Harrison to Revis, Dillon to Moss, Seau to Long.
Some interesting things are starting to come to light as Kraft was trying to answer the charge of being cheap.
It's easy to throw BB under the bus now.

There have been Patriots that gave a home team discount to stay many times so that they could afford to pay premiums for other free agents.
Thoughts???

There's now way you go to 13 out of 20 AFC Championship Games, 9 out of 20 Super Bowls and bring home 6 Lombardi trophies as a shitty GM.

Absolutely no way.
He didn't have full GM duties the 20 years did he?

I was going to say Belichick definitely had his misses and he did things his way, but his way was very successful and there is a reason that many teams tried to copy what the Pats were doing but couldnt' accomplish it. Obviously having Tom Brady is part of that equation but Belichick is as well. And his drafting record is definitely overblown. You look at some cornerstone names of those early Super Bowls in Richard Seymour (HOF), Matt Light, Deion Branch, Asante Samuel, Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork, and the list can go on. He found some incredible players.

Tom Brady didn't get a holding call that pushed the Falcons back 10 yards, Chris Long did. (BB signed him). Tom Brady didn't strip sack Matt Ryan, Hightower did (BB drafted him). Tom Brady didn't prevent a Brandin Cooks TD, Jason McCourty did (BB signed him).

Etc. etc. etc....

Dead cap.

And no QB's available in Free Agency or where Bill was drafting in 2020. Cam Newton was viewed as the best QB available after Drew Breeze and Tom Brady.
Best available in 2021 was Mac Jones, who turned out to be a bigger Scam than Cam. And rumored to be a result of Kraft meddling. 2021 FA class was even worse.

So there's that.

I feel for everything we question as bad about Bill, we need to praise some of his decisions. Bringing in role player vets at or near vet min. Releasing players at the right time.. He brought 6 championships to NE. Saved the Krafts a ton of money in doing so. Oh and he took a lot of Ernie Andrews was metrics to heart.
