The difference between Bosa and Jones is that Bosa is still on his first contract so the niners can waive any fines accrued when he eventually reports. Jones doesn’t have that luxury, the fines are mandatory. Bosa is getting ready to get a record deal.
And Jones can afford those....

Just watch them sign Bosa before the weekend is over, you can’t trade a guy like that.
Yeah I’m finding this “leak” to be hard to believe. The benefit of having Purdy is that you should never have to part with an All Pro as a cap casualty. He isn’t getting traded.

Winning or not, name change or not etc, the California Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will always be second fiddle at best to the Dodgers in LA. They've floundered 3 big stars now in recent memory (Pujols as a FA, Trout and Ohtani). Clipperific.

True. The Angels are in a very similar situation to the Clippers trying to compete with the Lakers. Which is why I understand Moreno choosing not to trade Ohtani.

To keep fans interested a team has to be able to sell winning or hope...especially when there is a bigger brand in the same market. Like the Clippers (who probably should have moved on from Kawhi and PG 2 years ago) as long as they have those 2 stars, they can sell hope.

If they’re looking to sell “winning” then they have to replace that Front Office. They do it all wrong. They zone in on names instead of zoning in on guys who can actually perform.

He thinks he can right now
I don’t blame Jones at all. When you have the leverage of being one of the top two-three DTs in the game, you should never have to play on the last year of your deal. It’s too important of a position and his versatility and his inside pressure from the DT spot is what makes the KC pass rush go. Chiefs will pay him because they can’t afford not to pay him.

Oh I agree they have to pay him, doubtful he will recover half seasons lost wages but he might.

That’s the trade off. He gives up lost money for a few weeks. (This won’t go 8 games) And in exchange he gets the security of 2-3 more years of salary certainty. His next snap it could be all over for him with an injury at an advanced age.

I’ll be surprised if he misses over 1 game. He has to say he is in it for the long haul but once he starts missing checks and the fines start accumulating things will change. I’m sure both sides have a date in mind when things will get more serious.

Yep. It's great to get "stars", but you have to follow that up with putting a roster around them that makes sense. That's the part the Angels struggle with.

lol

Ryan Clark being interviewed on Dan Patrick talked about how his team was able to beat Brady's Patriots a couple of times...

DP: So you guys owned Tom Brady a couple of times.

Clark: Nah, it was just rent.

I don’t think most people care. Clearly.

So they aren’t going to change it and of course there isn’t any uproar.

Doesn’t make it right though.

My only point from the beginning is that what the man said was not wrong. And he is being taken apart for it.

And now everyone here is piling on me for backing him up. Which is fine.

Now, let’s please just let this die. I don’t care to go back and forth with you 3 days after going back and forth with everyone else. I said my piece.
I'm just gonna make one more comment on it......it's kind of funny you think I'd be the driving force on you going back and forth on this when you clearly cannot control yourself and have already done so with others.

Self awareness, my friend.

Even if my team would spend never been a fan of those megadeals......guess I could understand it for Trout who was still kind of young and of course for Ohtani if he'd have accepted. But Pujols and I'm guessing others like that? Better to get 2-3 really good players.

Thing is, technically speaking, you and the sprinter are right.

Even though it's widely accepted that the NBA champion is the best team in the world...it's not a "true world championship".

But your first sentence nails it...nobody cares.

Folks care even less when the complaint comes from someone in a niche sport that people generally only pay attention to once every 4 years.

Think a lot of people thought that about Jones too.
Elite edge rushers aren't an easy thing to come by...he just won DPOY. I mean you have to pay those guys, pretty simple. He is 4 years younger than Jones and arguably a top 2-3 EDGE in the NFL. 34 sacks the last 2 seasons.

IF he was traded, that team would have to give up a shit ton for a young EDGE in his prime only 25 years old. I mean this is kinda like the Browns trading Garrett bc they didn't want to pay him. Why invest all that money into your DL and then trade your best defensive lineman?

Honestly, kinda ridiculous the Niners are dragging this out. The kid just won DPOY and they were supposed to extend him and he has earned it. I get it's not so simple with details but they had all summer.

You live in a different world though as a Guardians fan. The Guardians can’t afford to “buy” themselves out of a deal if it goes bad. Many organizations can.

The Guardians are a completely different world near the bottm for sure.....My thought is if ownership had a will to win, while we cannot keep up with LA, NY, etc, we could certainly spend league average like MN, Milwaukee and Cinci.

Even if we did I would not go after guys who want crazy money....especially pitchers. Few of them work.

Cannot even fathom how annoying it would be to have owners who would spend crazy money and a FO that wastes it.

I disagree.....I doubt Jokic would get so deep in it like you and would just figure the person asking was taking NBA title and would say it's his team.

Has there been much of an uproar over the World Series designation to change it? I've heard others complain on occasion (as is being done with world champ for NBA champ) but guessing most don't really care.
Some context...why is it even called the 'World Series'?

So we agree. Unlike other franchises, they can’t “buy” their way out of deals that become bad.
