It is out of line. It shows the rookie slot is now higher than the franchise tag for RBs. This is a guy who has never had an NFL carry yet. It’s absurd.

Franchise tag is the average of the top 5 salaries at the position. What is out of line apparently is drafting a rookie RB that early to pay him more than that by slotted salary.

NFLPA is nutless. Non guaranteed contracts are insane.

The problem is you need so many bodies and do many FAs due to injury

You’d need the practice squad to be cap exempt or something

Players association needs to do better in collective bargaining.

It’s one group of players

Not sure what they’d do with that

It is already essentially. Cap is top 51 based.

$10M per isn't being discarded. If teams are willing to utilize day 3 picks or UFAs in place of pricey veterans, there's not much you can do. Those vets need to prove their value over those supposedly lesser backs to change the momentum.

The best of the best get that for 1 season.

League average vet RBs have trouble finding jobs. And when they do, it is for a fraction of that.

League average is apparently very replaceable by guys off the street. Doesn't bode well for bargaining power.

To better guarantee contracts across the board, not just RBs

Yep.

This is the solution.

All the haggling at every position is over guaranteed money.

A non-guaranteed contract is not much different than a team option in the NBA. Player only seeing that money if they are out producing contract value.

That is a problem.

  • Running Back: $1,789,687
  • Cornerback: $1,999,348

  • Tight End: $2,055,238
  • Safety: $2,196,749
  • Kicker: $2,228,472
  • Defensive Tackle: $2,496,660
  • Center: $2,394,058

Doesn't seem that out of whack overall (these include depth players, skewing the numbers down for positions where teams hold multiple backups).

The nfl and divorce are the only institutions where the breaching party is rewarded

That should tell you everything
True to a point, but people that shouldn’t get rewarded in the NBA as well. Just how it is with unions.

To the letter of the law? Correct. But in the spirit of signing a 5 year promise and then only coming through on 3? It absolutely applies.
They need to "come through" on the guaranteed portion of the contract and they do.

Want to say it's a terrible CBA for the players? No disagreement there.

Nope. What’s become out of line is that over time RB salaries have grown at such a ridiculously low rate that now the slotting of a top 10 pick for a rookie is now higher than that of the franchise tag at the RB position. Draft slot values aren’t generally slotted based on position with a special exception I believe for QBs. I think it’s cooked into the rule that you can pay a rookie QB that was taken at say pick 7 more than a rookie DE drafted at 7. Or maybe I have that rule exception wrong.

Yeah, which means the one that isn’t unionized should be fixed

Fast? What's the rush?

People ruining lives and being rewarded cash and prizes rather than facing the consequences of their own actions?
