The New Orleans Saints were supposedly $98M over the 2023 Salary Cap, yet they just signed Derek Carr to a 4 year $150M contract.

They haven't released $98M worth of contracts.

If the Jets trade for Aaron Rogers, they certainly don't have $60M in cap space.

Why the hell even bother with a Cap? Everyone circumvents it, ignores it or screws with it.

It's a FARCE and the league ignores violations.

Teams have until 4 p.m. ET on March 15 to get under the salary cap before the free agency period officially opens.

The season has not started. So I think being over at this point in time is not a violation

They don't ignore it. They manipulate it and other contracts to get what they need and do it within the confines of the cap.
They also often "kick the can down the road"

It's like being married.
Manipulate a little, you get what you want. Manipulate too much, you get divorced!

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the NFL has taken away a 2023 fifth-round pick from the Texans and fined them $175,000 for a salary-cap violation.

Houston believes it is an "accounting error" that dates back to Deshaun Watson's training per Schefter. The Texans had Watson train at a local facility while theirs was shut down due to COVID-19. It's hard to say that the Texans have really lost much here, but given how Nick Caserio operates drafts, that fifth-rounder was likely to become ammunition for a trade up at some point.

It's a FARCE <remove the rest since it's unnecessary> and the league ignores violations.

but heres the joke part of it:suds:

Browns restructured Deshaun Watson's contract.

According to Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns restructured Watson's $46 million base salary to clear $36 million in cap space. It was reported last week that Watson would be willing to restructure his deal if it meant freeing up cap space to sign quality vets in free agency. The Browns were rumored by Cabot to be targeting Bengals free agent safety Jessie Bates in the coming days, which is now possible thanks in part to Watson's restructuring.

Didn't Tom and the Pats use to do the same thing?

Teams eventually have to pay the guaranteed money. They can just add dummy years at the end of the contract to spread that money out but give all that cash up front, converting it to a signing bonus. If a team’s “window” is presently open, it may be a sage move.

The window may be open for the fins, but big iron bars are going to keep anything from getting through...

Like Baltimore signing OBJ Sunday.

1 year $15M wit $3M in makeable incentives.

Baltimore does not have the Cap space and it's actually a 5 year contract all payable in 2023. If he can stay on the field the contract will be rewritten every year for five years and OBJ will get a huge bonus that will be due over the following five years.

So basically, the CAP is bullshit until the bill comes due.

And that $107M will be dead cap if he gets hurt. No way that salary isn't guaranteed. The NFLPA would never allow it. One way or another, that bonus is going to eventually bite them in the ass. Why the hell didn't they just make it a bonus and rewrite his contract for three years at $20M per?
They'd be spreading $120M over three and he might just last that long.

They don't care. They don't use judgement!
They are just going all in on going from last to Superbowl champs this year.
Buffalo is a much better organization. How many SB's have they won in the last......
