Plenty of NFL capologists saw this coming. Carr's contract is only guaranteed for the next 2 games. He's due $75M over the next 2 seasons and $40.5M of that money fully guarantees 1 week after the Super Bowl. The money guarantees before the trade market opens and Carr has a no-trade clause anyway. No GM/owner should be prepared to guarantee that sort of money for a QB who isn't top 12 and might not be top 20. This is a 'take an immediate terms/pay cut or sit 2 games and be released' manoeuvre by the Raiders.

The 2 teams that made bad trades to acquire Wentz have probably learned their lesson.

...and Carr would have no reason to agree to such a trade.

The Jets? They had Zach, Flacco and White.

He'd agree to a trade there in a heartbeat IMO. And Carr would be a massive upgrade.

Raiders with their no. 2 QB versus the Niners with their no. 3 QB. Totally a fair matchup and I expect a close game.

As a Chiefs fan this is an important detail as it pertains to the Chiefs playoff seeding. The Raiders in my opinion pose a much bigger threat against the Chiefs with Carr starting.

Something interesting (to me anyway) is Carr's career passing stat: 35,222 passing yards, good for 32nd ALL TIME.

While he seems to be on a very Philip Rivers/Matt Ryan career trajectory of high production, low yield, I guess this is a financial decision on the part of the Raiders. Supposedly they are keeping McDaniels because they can't afford to fire him, continue paying out his contract and hire a new HC that is remotely in demand.
hes trying to pass the red rocket

Carr is settled and has zero reason to move his wife and 3 children if the Raiders guarantee him $40.5M with a no trade clause. Are the Jets going to offer him a bigger financial package to move?

He can agree to waive the no trade clause if it's a team he is interested in.

This really isn't that difficult.....LOL.

Again, he's happy where he is and he can refuse to be traded - so it would be ridiculously foolish for a team that didn't want him, (other than for a potential trade), to retain him at significantly more than his market value. Good luck with a 'trade compensation plus $40M' sales pitch for a $24M commodity.

Could he end up with NYG if they decide to part ways with Jones?
Gonna be a few QBs on the move it seems: Brady, Carr, Garoppolo, Zack Wilson, maybe Baker, maybe Daniel Jones, etc

Pretty untenable to be average/touch above when you're in a division with Herbert and Mahomes. Going 3-3 in the division optimistically is a recipe for sitting your ass on the couch every January.
I still don't get why people put W/L records on the QB. There's no bigger team sport than football. No matter how good you are a QB needs guys to catch the ball, people to protect him in the pocket, and a coach or OC who can call good plays. Outside of the all time greats like Brady and Manning I wouldn't put the win or loss on the QB.

For example, Jimmy G's W/L record. Another example, Russell Wilson this year.

I am highly against it, but it's also undeniable a huge chunk of any team's "WAR" if you will is gonna be QBcentric. The most efficient way to build a team is always gonna involve a QB.

Carr has a .109 Adjusted EPA/Play for the year.

Mahomes has a .319 Adjusted EPA/Play for the year. Mahomes is over .300 for his career. That isn't a QBwinz stat, that's just a massive gap between the production of two QB's.

There's no way you can sustainably compete with the Chiefs if you pay Carr like 40M. Just no way.

Sure he's obviously way overpaid but my point is put Carr on a good team like the Niners and they win the title. The W/L record just isn't a stat I like when comparing QBs. Your stat (adj EPA/play) makes a lot more sense for that.

I am not sure Carr is all that different from Jimmy- may actually be worse in many respects. The 49ers are also the outlier, not the norm. Jimmy G is also weird in that most of his production people seem convinced is because of his scheme/weapons and not him. Which... tough to argue against.

The bolded is my point. W/L record is not a QB stat and Jimmy is the best proof. So is Brock Purdy.

I think it's very hard to explain the difference between the Raiders right now and the Chiefs without talking about the QB's, imo. Definitely not a QBwinz guy. Just pointing out how challenging it is for the Raiders.

Like I said all time greats matter. QBs in general obviously matter, there are good and bad ones. But to say 'Jimmy won x games and lost y games' or 'Carr's W/L record is x' doesn't sit right with me. It's the ultimate TEAM sport.

ISn't this kind of what McDaniels did with the Broncos too? cut ties with players so he could get "His Guys" in place to prove it is his system?
