Lions attempted to claim former Chargers and Notre Dame iDL Jerry Tillery, but the Raiders ended up winning the claim.

Way too early for discussion regarding 2023 UFA's, but I simply couldn't ignore this article. Holmes doesn't have the projected money for 2023 but damn adding an interior DL like Javon Hargrave to not only play maybe his final 2-4 seasons in Detroit but also as a mentor to the young iDL Holmes currently has and whoever may be drafted. Unfortunately, Hargrave turns 30 next year.

Lavonte David and Jamel Dean on this list also

It's about damn time we read something regarding the following. So, it appears by December 7th, at the latest, they'll have to play him or send him to IR

Over the next 21 days, the Lions will have an opportunity to take a look at how Chark’s surgically prepared ankle will hold up during practices. Once they feel like he is ready to return to game action, they can activate him from injured reserve (which can happen at any time), placing him on the 53-man roster, and thus making him eligible to play a game.

Typically, the Lions take their time with this process, allowing players two to three weeks to reacclimate.

Campbell also gave an update on rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams, suggesting the team is tentatively considering starting his 21-day evaluation clock, sometime after Thanksgiving— “maybe the Jacksonville week (Week 13), or the week after.”

The following stat is proof positive that Holmes' needs to load up on defensive players the first two days in 2023 draft and sign a veteran defensive line player that's worth it and isn't currently injured.

Frank Ragnow — Currently fourth among centers

Aidan Hutchison — Currently sixth among defensive ends

DeShon Elliott — Currently seventh among strong safeties

Kerby Joseph — Currently eight among free safeties

Penei Sewell — Currently ninth among offensive tackles

Amon-Ra St. Brown — Currently 10th among wide receivers

The receiver position is among the most competitive in the league, but this still feels a little low for St. Brown. He currently ranks third among receivers in PFF grade (89.8), trailing only Stefon Diggs (90.1) and Tyreek Hill (92.1). St. Brown is a weapon the Lions don’t only use as a receiver, but as an essential blocker in the run game.

Injuries have limited St. Brown’s overall production, but even after missing (essentially) two games this year, the second-year receiver ranks ninth in receptions (65) and 15th in yards (716).

Go vote homies.

Pro Bowl voting is still ongoing. You can vote for your favorite Lions right here until December 15. Additionally, starting on December 1, you can vote for the Pro Bowl via Twitter by tweeting the first and last name of a player, along with the hashtag #ProBowlVote.

Ultimately, Pro Bowl players will be decided by three sets of voters: fans, players, and coaches—with each accounting for one-third of the influence.

Hutchinson becomes the second of Brad Holmes’ draft picks to earn Rookie of the Month honors, joining Amon-Ra St. Brown, who did it for the month of December last year.

Hutchinson is just the third Detroit Lions rookie ever to win Defensive Player of the Month. Previously, Ndamukong Suh won the honors in 2010 and Louis Delmas did it the year before.

Through three months of the season, Hutchinson is currently third in odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, trailing only Jets cornerback Ahmad Gardner and Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen.

Quarterback Jared Goff has been strong on play-action passes all season. He was really dialed in when using play-action in Week 12. From Next Gen Stats:

Jared Goff was at his best using play action in Week 12, completing 10 of 13 passes for 128 yards & 2 TD on such plays. Goff has earned the 2nd highest NGS passing score (90) using play action this season.

Put another way, here are Goff’s numbers with play-action passes stripped from his stats:

13-of-24 passing, 112 yards, no TDs or INTs

That’s a pretty strong split, one that indicates the Lions should probably utilize play-action even more.

In the 1st quarter on TNF the Lions sent swing tackle Matt Nelson in motion as a lead blocker for Jamaal Williams, who scored his league-leading 13th TD run this season. The Lions have run 10% of all plays in XL personnel (6+ OL), good for 2nd most in the NFL, and have 7 TDs when in XL personnel (2nd most).

Even more proof and not just from this last game, but Holmes needs to address starting RG and a swing OT in this upcoming draft if he wants the offense to reach its potential.

The first half ended with this tally:

Awosika – 3 plusses, 7 minuses

Skipper – 3 plusses, 6 minuses

The final tally, with both players on the field for all 71 offensive snaps:

Skipper – 7 plusses, 13 minuses. The run/pass splits: 5/3 in the run, 2/10 in pass protection

Awosika – 6 plusses, 15 minuses. The run/pass split was 2/7 in the run and 4/8 in pass pro

QB Jared Goff might be in the MVP conversation if he could play all his games at Ford Field – where he’d be projected to throw for nearly 4,400 yards and 43 TDs over 17 games with a 102.6 passer rating.

By now, you’ve probably heard the Lions have had one of the more difficult schedules through the first 11 games of the season, but if you haven’t taken a moment to look back, allow me to point a few things out.

Among the six best teams in the NFL now—eight or more wins this season—the Lions have had to face five of them. They lost to the Eagles by 3 points, Vikings by 4 points, Cowboys by 18 (though they were down just 4 points with less than three minutes left before things unraveled), the Dolphins by 4 points, and the Bills by 3 points. In fact, outside of the disastrous game against the Patriots, the Lions’ only other loss was to the 6-5 Seahawks, and that was also by just 3 points.

The gritty, fight-until-the-end attitude has the national perspective changing surrounding the Lions, and they are beginning to move past the “lovable losers” label; they’re becoming a team that has shown “they can hang with just about any team in the league.”

^^^^^^

All the what ifs for this season.

What if Romeo Okwara, Josh Paschal, TW lll, Jerry Jacobs, Vaitai, Chark all were healthy enough from game 1 of regular season and each played for 12 games or more.

There's still a lot of needs to address and the draft in 2023 and lack of cap space surely won't solve all of those needs for next season, but it does appear this team is headed in the right direction.
