Apparently when someone gets killed trying to cross an interstate on foot at 6:30am, it's bad form to wonder why they were trying to do that.

Or for a journalist to give a quick synopsis of the man’s career. If he didn’t have the career he had, none of us would even be acknowledging what happened to him, so offering a bit of context for those of us who hadn’t memorized his CV is just good reporting, IMHO.

Or for a journalist to give a quick synopsis of the man’s career. If he didn’t have the career he had, none of us would even be acknowledging what happened to him, so offering a bit of context for those of us who hadn’t memorized his CV is just good reporting, IMHO.

That's how I took it. I don't follow college ball and was only vaguely familiar with the guy, for example.. and I'm an NFL fan. Shefter's critics protesteth too much imo. Otoh, what Brandt said was out of line or at minimum way too soon.

And all Schefter said was that Haskin’s struggled to catch on with a team. If THAT causes everyone to clutch pearls and get panty-bunched, this country is more fucked than i feared.

And as I later stated, Schefter, as a journalist, was offering context to who Haskins was. I recognized the name when I saw the news, but wasn’t certain who he was. If I had seen Schefter’s tweet, it would have offered me a lot of info about who he was and why his death was even being discussed.

I certainly see your point but I think where I see the issue is that I just see...Twitter etc taking away from our humanity a bit. Like it's more important to get the jump than to pause and craft a decent message.

But I also see where it becomes this popular thing to feel angst at today's popular topic to be offended by. That is annoying as well.

I agree in general that in a world of instant communication and insta-news, being first trumps being right, to the detriment of society.

But I see absolutely zero wrong with Schefter’s tweet. He is a journalist, not a pastor. Just saying “Dwayne Haskins was hit by a car and killed” is WAY to vague. Haskins isn’t a household name. Steelers fans, Buckeye fans and MAYBE Skins fans will know who he is, but the average sports fan outside of that need at least a memory jog.

To be fair given he's someone I'm very familiar with I did not think of it that way.

Confirmed that he ran out of gas heading eastbound on I-595 and just passed the I-95 junction. Crossed the divider & tried to cross the westbound lanes when he was killed.

I can Think of a few. No Phone or low/No Battery.

Sometimes when were focused on something, we don't make the Smartest Decisions....

Lesson I had to find out the hard way.

5-10 years ago. Pulling a night shift on a Saturday of a Victoria day long Weekend(May). I was trying to retrieve something, Box of plastic bags, that I needed on a pallet that was tightly covered in Cyclophane wrap,

I lay down on a blank Pallet thinking I cut throw the wrap and use my 6'1 wingspan to shimmy and work the box free and then bring it to my stomach.

So I pull out my Box Cutter. and Start carefully cutting though. At somepoint my Box Cutter gets caught in the Wrap.

So i could either try to lose my grip, step back and try from different Angle.......

Or

I could try and "Jimmy it free"

I chose jimmy and it worked......................

As the box cutter fell I can't remember if it Nicked or got impaled just above my forearm. I Whinly called the night Supervisor name and she came over and got me some first aid. Left a small scar.
