LC Ionman and Th cuts give you 15 mil
Now that Collins is cut we have 12m in cap space. If you read the hogshaven article about the Wentz contract restructure it frees up another 13. 25M in cap space is not bad going into FA. Plus we can rework other deals. I Like it!!!

As I've tried telling dad and others, there is plenty of space to be made. No way they were gonna keep Collins at a 16M cap hit. No way. When he refused a paycut, he got cut, saving 6-7M in space. I don't see him getting a big deal in FA, so he might be back at a lower #.

Flowers's two best years have come in Washington, so he'd be a good player to extend and in doing so, it'll drop his current 10M figure (likely by half) and save space.

If the FO doesn't want to cut Ionman, you can extend him and make even more space.

Hogshaven is right that the team can create a quick 13M in cap space by restructuring Wentz's deal, but you Might want to see how he plays this season first.

I'm not sure that Snyder was involved in this move, however, taking on that entire salary does reek of some previous crap and I believe is more in line with the whole Carolina north mentality. Carson Wentz is 6" 5" 237 and is as shot as Cam. Seriously sad times!
Oh, as far as the move itself. That reminds me of Gibbs 2.0 when Joe G would put extra stank on some of the trades/deals he made. Like trading for an about to be cut Mark Brunell because the Jags weren't gonna pay him a 2 mill roster bonus. Instead of waiting a week or so for him to be cut. Gibbs traded for him. Then there was the 2nd rd pk in the CP/Champ deal which was another asinine move. As Champ wanted out of DC a head up trade would've been cool. but if any team was getting extra compensation it should've been the Skins.

Ron Rivera has gotta know he's done here.
I can get passed all his roster mistakes if he just does the right thing in the draft.
Hopefully, he'll get the next staff in a good position. R.I.P to this season, a one and done postseason is on the way

Not all fans here understand QBs cost money. You may have seen how people freaked when Cousin's got tagged twice. I am not saying it is Wentz but if this team is going to be any good then $28 million would be cheap for a good QB. Whether Wentz is a good QB remains to be seen.

Of course finding a GOOD young QB in the draft would be huge so you would have 4 years on a rookie contract.

As frustrating as the end of the season was for the Colts, Washington hasn't had a quarterback sniff the kind of numbers Wentz delivered since Kirk Cousins in 2017 when he threw 27 touchdowns, 13 picks and ranked 17th with a QBR of 56.2. Since 2018, Washington ranks last in combined total QBR as well as touchdown passes (71). The NFL average for touchdown passes during that time? 104.8.

And this is why they made the trade. Also RR needs to win. Will he with Wentz? Maybe he is only here for a year. I'd still try to draft a QB.
How do you think TH's numbers look last year if he played with a RB who started all 17 games, had 332 carries, gained 1811 yards at 5.45 yards a pop and scored 18 TDs, along with 40 rec for another 360 yard, 9.0 ypc and 2 TDs. As well as with an OL that blocked for a running game that went for 2500+ yards at 5.09 ypc and 22 TDs and only allowed 32 sacks on Wentz's 516 pass att.

The Skins entire team only gained 250 more yards rushing than Taylor did and scvored 13 rush TDs to Taylor's 18. The Skins def also gave up 69 more points than the Colts defense.

The pass catching of both teams look eerily similar. Terry Mac n Pittman had very similar numbers than a big drop-off.

All that going for him, huge advantage in the run game, definite advantage in the OL, a push in the passing game and a defense that gave up 4 points less a game. Wentz managed 7 more passing TDs than TH. TH doubled up Wentz 7 INTs on the yearr and both had a ypa of 6.9.

Story out today claims Frank Riech(sp) apologized to Irsay for bringing in Carson Wentz last season.

The Commanders got themselves a gem no doubt

Looks like fleecing the football team in DC is a go again eh.

Let me ask you this. If Wentz won that game in Jacksonville does everyone see him differently? Do the Colts still trade him?
No, winning that game wouldn't have any effect on how Carson Wentz is or has been viewed. Second question.. yes they still trade him to the only team foolish ( spelled Desperate) enough to seriously involve themselves in such a venture. Let's not be bamboozled into thinking that these reports of other teams being interested are serious.

Can we all agree that wentz is at peast a slight upgrade from TH?

If so, then we can agree that the commanders are - right now only - a slightly better team then they were before the trade.

The obviously massive caveats are:
What to do about restructures
What to do about signing Scary Terry
What to do about JD McKissic
What to do about all other wft free agents
What to do about the fact that Wentz is on his third team in three years
What to do about his apparent prima donna tendencies

Lots to do and lots of off-season left to do it

I think they were. You can't tell me Pitt was offering something or the Saints. I like the trade for reasons I already explained. If he puts up the numbers he did last year on our team, then we make the playoffs easily. I think the Jax game turned people off on the guy. He can still play. If he works out the picks and the money are actually a steal. If he doesnt then there is no gmoney left on the contract and we can move on. That is why its a good trade.

Wentz is more than a slight upgrade over TH. Cmon now.

QB is the one position that requires the holder to be a, no scratch that, T.H.E. leader of the team. Wentz has been on two teams, and although he has physical skills that Heinecke can only dream of, he has not displayed the leadership qualities that comes with the position. For better or worse, because our team scrapped and clawed for TH even doing those extra things to help cover his inadequacies, coupled with zero evidence that neither Philadelphia or Indianapolis had any regard for Wentz's leadership abilities, I have serious questions about him being a better QB than Heinecke.

Yes they do because the owner wanted him gone for covid

Perhaps!! Matching physical stature and skills, Wentz is hands down better. So before I go on let me ask you... How much value is it to a team if their QB is a true leader that inspires others because they believe in him? How much of a detriment is it to that same team if their QB inspires no one and lacks the requisite skills to be that leader?
