They're worth every penny. Ever heard of capitalism?

So you think Russell Westbrook is worth his contract?

Was Greg Oden worth what he got when he was drafted # 1?

Was Ryan Leaf worth the money being taken # 2 overall?

Was Darko Milicic worth the money as the # 2 pick?

The answer to those questions is no.

Nope. That's why I think their best and maybe only chance of moving him is to a team that is looking to rebuild. Next year, he's a $47 million expiring contract. So a team that wants to clear cap space, could move guys with more years left on their deals to get a guy that fans will pay to see, won't significantly damage their lotto odds and will clear $47 million off their salary to use on FA's. for the 2023-24 season.

That would be heavily dependent on whom the Lakers could get in return, as extending that roster expenditure forward for players that someone else wants to dump isn't necessarily ideal when trying to build around Lebron's remaining years (if he intends to continue beyond 22/23). Lakers could be looking at a lot of cap space in 23/24 if Lebron doesn't re-sign.

But you could also argue that guys like Russ were worth more earlier in their career than they were paid. The others? That's the lottery ticket risk of draft picks.

I think they would look to get younger, veteran type players (maybe within a year or 2 of AD's age). Maybe a couple of guys making in the $20 million range? It wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to bring in older guys like they have now who have a couple of years left on their deals.

If they can do it right, they could improve the team while they have Lebron and also a bridge to continue contending when Lebron retires or moves on to another team.

I can agree with that. But as his career went on I don't think he's been worth the money. A player of his talent shouldn't be on his 4th team in 4 years. Like I called him yesterday, he's a chemistry killer. Puts up numbers, but doesn't seem to be a good fit. Which is maybe why he played for that many teams the last 4 seasons.

47m!? Damn that's alotta money. Athlete salaries are why I'll never been able to afford a really good seat at any game.

My living room is a pretty damn good seat for free, lol. Cheap refreshments, free parking, private bathroom, "smoking" allowed, no mask necesssary....

Of course, my closest opportunities to attend a game are hours away in either Toronto or Cleveland, so.......nah. Bring back the Rochester Royals!!!

That's always the process, but it also depends on who is in that free agent class for 23/24. Cap space may be more valuable than any trade possibilities.

His value is dependent on high usage rates, which is problematic if he's going to shoot at these percentages. Lack of defensive talent/interest doesn't help matters. His physical talent is impressive even at his age, but that's not enough at his pay level.

Giannis did get a lot of calls but I’m not surprised. That was the best win of the year
If you can just barrel your way into the lane (and travel) that's really tough to stop.

Huge W. Don't need to shoot like that every night, of course, but cannot beat good teams shooting 30% or less from 3 and missing FTs. Did really well from both last night.

You said almost all of them not the outlier bad contracts. Try to keep up.

I do have to say Giannis can barrel into the lane and travel and either score, get the call or both at will. Nothing new for a superstar though.
Two full steps and elevating was always a travel in high school. They've really changed the game to allow these guys to make so-called amazing plays that otherwise would be violations.

Can't say it makes the game worse

No, just makes it a different game, as does the physicality allowed. Physical strength shouldn't really have an impact on basketball in the classical sense.
I quite like the brand of basketball we see now especially after they stopped calling the Harden/Trae Young bullshit as much

The one that drives me crazy is palming the ball. Tons of guys palm the ball now days just in their normal act of dribbling. You see them turn the ball over with their palm all the time. The rules should be the rules.
