You kind of need an out pitch if you are a pitcher
I don't mind including pitches that result in any kind of an out as an "out pitch." A guy who can get fly outs, pop uos, and ground outs are effective too.

Effective in a very loose sense.
Swing and miss guys are preferred mostly unless in need of a double play

Allard is a body to eat innings which may be ok for the coming season. He is not a winning piece and maybe I am wrong but pretty much what we see is what we are going to get.

Just guessing that some guys on this board think we can compete next year.

To me odds are against this and I think SP is a big part of this. Not impossible but we would need an another effective SP added and a timely call up. Allard is not a guy you want on a playoff roster at least at this point. But guess anyone can improve. But it is not the norm

So having Allard is no big deal for me one way or another
I am just not expecting much but would love to be surprised.

My thoughts are about pitching in general. Allard is just a bridge.

I do think strikeouts are overrated to a degree at this point in time. It is nice to get some outs before a pitcher even gets to strike two. It keeps the pitcher in the game longer and keeps the fielders engaged. I like a one, two, three inning using 10 pitches, and no strikeouts, a lot more than striking out the side with 18 pitches. If a guy is below league average in K/9 it doesn't necessarily mean he is a bad pitcher to me. Reading what Hearn said about how he has improved tended to imply that he agrees with me to a degree.

I know over the past few years my opinion about this has become more and more unpopular. New stats have even been designed that really favor strikeouts. That is one of the reasons I am not as taken with some of the newer ways of judging baseball players as others are. Those ways have been developed with certain theories in mind that I disagree with.

I am not too knowledgeable about how difficult it is to have a fake Twitter account. Someone help me with this. Is this actually Guznan and how can you tell?

The tweet was removed, but this is what it said.

"Also ignored the fact that i spent the whole off season playing in DR won the mvp raked in the finals & playoffs, team all start on the Caribbean series, raked in ST, sat me down for the first 3 days of the season then put me on the outfield having one of the best defense at 1B in the game, got me hurt then take me out the roster and now i dont have a job with a locked down MLB.
Judge me if im not speaking facts."

I think that's ideal to an extent, but that was Nick Martinez's problem, he'd get 2 strikes on a guy but couldn't get the strikeout, and eventually the guy would walk or get a hit instead, or at the very least a pitch count AB

If Elvis Andrus has 450 plate appearances his $15 million option will vest.

Will the Athletics be on the hook for that or the Rangers??

I believe the A’s got 13.5 million in the trade so the Rangers are done. Andrus would need 550 PA or 1100 over the next two years for him to collect the full amounts in 2022 and 2023 with either player or team options. A little confusing. Something like that.

Man, we went from the most exciting off-season ever to the most boring over the course of like 5 days lol.
Ready for this lockout to lift.

Owners have lost a lot of profits the last 2 years that's why they locked out so fast, they want to get this over with so things can get back to normal...

if they did want to get it over they would have made some effort. they met twice: understand the 1st lasted 35 minutes and the 2nd was only for 10 minutes.

Here's what CBS Sports had on the Rangers off season, to date:

team logo

Rangers
We have a simple rule for grading offseasons: if you sign two of that winter's top four free agents, you get an "A". The Rangers, by virtue of signing Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, get an "A". (Texas also inked Jon Gray and Kole Calhoun.)
Seager and Semien should prove to be huge boons for a lineup that was one of the worst in baseball last season. That established, it's fair to have skepticism about the Rangers competing next season -- at least as currently constructed. The pitching staff remains a mess, and Texas could use another outfielder.
The Rangers would appear to have around $20 million more to spend this offseason, so they ought to be able to address some of those aspects between now and Opening Day. GRADE: A

My ideal rest offseason in order of want
Trade for Straw
Sign Kershaw
Sign Suzuki

That's going to cost more than 20m but I can hope

C - Heim/Trevino
1B - Lowe
2B - Semien
3B - Jung
SS - Seager
LF - Suzuki
CF - Straw
RF - Garcia
DH - Calhoun (but DH would be regularly rotated)

Kershaw, Gray, Hearn, Dunning, Alexy/Allard/Howard/Otto

I could see Otto and Howard functioning as long men out of the bullpen when needed (personally I think the bullpen is Otto's future), Alexy starting in AAA and Allard getting the first crack at the 5 spot
