Last year when he was called up he did pretty good, although it was a small sample. 31 ABs .355 avg 3 homeruns.
Yep, and then he really struggled after he came back after getting hurt this year.

The Rangers' offseason roster overhaul has commenced.

Reinstated from the 60-day Injured List: pitchers Kyle Cody, Edwar Colina, Jonathan Hernandez, John King, Jose Leclerc, and Nick Snyder, and UT Eli White.

Designated for assignment:
Pitcher Matt Bush, and infielders Ronald Guzman (who had also been on the 60 IL), Anderson Tejeda, and Curtis Terry. They’ve been outrighted to AAA Round Rock. All can become free agents.

Lost on waivers: Pitchers Jharel Cotton (Minnesota) and Joe Palumbo (San Francisco).

The surprise to me is Tejeda. Certainly, his collapse at the plate in 2021 warranted the move, but with his age (23), still-shiny tools and another option to come, I thought Texas might hang on, if grudgingly, and that another team would claim him given the opportunity. 30 clubs just said “think again, Scott.”

I didn’t hold such illusions about Guzman. The Rangers broadcasted their feelings when they traded for Nathanial Lowe. Guzman joins an sky-high stack of players who couldn't provide the stability at first base that the Rangers have sought since 2008. With his fine defense, Guzman can get by with being an average MLB hitter, but for the most part, he hasn't been.

Bush will be 36 next spring and has barely pitched the last three years. Still, there could be some mutual interest in keeping the relationship going.

I feel for Terry, who struggled badly after making great strides to reach the Majors following four years in short-season ball. Even in Texas’s current predicament, he was an awkward roster fit that could only be maintained by exceptional hitting.

I don’t know that I expected Cotton to be designated this soon, but I wasn’t counting on him making through the entire winter. Good on him for reviving his career.

I half-expected Texas to try to sneak the injured Colina through waivers. The same applies to Kyle Cody, who underwent shoulder surgery in September.

Previously, infielders Brock Holt and Charlie Culberson became free agents, as did pitcher Jordan Lyles. Texas also released pitcher Drew Anderson, who will sign with Japan’s Hiroshima club.

With these moves, the Rangers have 36 players on the 40-man roster, and the 60-day Injured List is empty. My current expectation is they'll need two more spots to contain all the 40-man additions in advance of the Rule 5 draft, plus more if they wish to participate in the draft and sign any free agents in the near future.

Cody, J. Hernandez and Leclerc will return to the 60-day on Feb 17th basically clearing 3 40-man spots. Cody isn't expected to be cleared for baseball operations until maybe August while Leclerc and Hernandez may not be ready until May or June

I think we might add late as you speculate. Maybe we get an outfielder then if bidding is not accepted or a pitcher

As far as what Adam said, It isn't low if we plan on going with a young bench and bullpen. When you have Solak/IKF, Yonny, and Ibanez you can get by without acquiring a veteran for the bench.

well we have to carry a 2nd catcher, a 4th outfielder/DH and a couple of utility types which i think will be Heim, Walker, Ibanez and Y. Hernandez

From Jeff Wilson's Farm Report:

Baseball America and MLB.com both ranked the Rangers’ farm system as the 11th-best in baseball. Both cite depth and an influx of talent behind giving the Rangers a double-digit bump from preseason rankings.

The Rangers, though, thought they were badly underrated entering the season and believed all of what happened in 2021 would have happened in 2020 had there been a a season.

So, how good do the Rangers believe their system is entering 2022?

“I think we're a top 10 farm system right now,” Fenstermaker said. “And with the third pick in the draft, another top 40 pick after that, and depending on who we graduate before that, we’ve got a chance to be top five farm system by midseason next year.”

That would include the potential “graduations” of Josh Jung and Sam Huff from prospects to MLB players who no longer have rookie status. The Rangers expect to sign two top-30 players from the upcoming international class.
