And since this is a cfb thread, what has Notre Dame produced in the way of Cfb coaches? Weiss(twice fired), Mike Hayward, fired by Pitt and spurned by Tulane, and Dick Coury? lol

Why would ND need to produce great coaches? They hire great coaches.

I'd much rather have a HC from somewhere else who is successful than have the coaching talent have to leave the program in order to find success (Minnesota)

And yet with fewer non-revenue sports to act as a drag on the UO Athletic program, it STILL barely makes money. Seems like it's going to lose a crapload soon?! 60some million?
Your football program is a drag on the U

Minnesota (2019)

Total revenue (minus subsidy & student fees):
$107.9 million

  • Student fees: 0
  • Direct institutional support: $8.5 million
  • Big Ten distribution: $33.9 million
  • Contributions: $14 million
  • Ticket sales: $20.5 million

Total expenses: $114.2 million

Deficit: $6.3 million

Wow. It's incredible how shitty their program is, even with the Big Ten distribution.

Damn, you are really dumb.

There are only 28 Universities in the country with a larger Endowment than Minnesota, as of 2018. lol.
And that is suppose to be impressive because? Literally the only state college and you got non legit universities that surround Minnesota. You really don’t think Oregon would get as big of an endowment if they weren’t surrounded by great schools with different world renowned programs? Fuck I hate defending Oregon but Oregon in the 70’s chose a path to build the school and it was centered around something you that don’t get classified as endowments that you are bragging about.

Yeah, why would a UNIVERSITY care if it produced quality students, when all that matters is that it produces a quality football team, right? I mean they are student-ATHLETES right? They only pretend to go to class at UO I bet, right? All you do is recruit them to play football, you could care less if they can read or write even, as long as they can talk some as they may end up with a camera and a microphone in their face, right?

Fuck you are a sad pathetic loser.

Minnesota has hired amazing coaches, you dumbfukk. It's why Minnesota has 6-10 Natl Titles and Oregon has ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha, jackass.

Henry Williams = Cfb Hall of Fame.
William Spaulding = Oregon felt he was good enough to hire immediately after he & UMn parted ways.
Fritz Crisler = Cfb Hall of Fame.
Bernie Bierman = Cfb Hall of Fame.
Murray Warmath = won them a Natl Title in 1960 and a Rose Bowl in 1962.
Lou Holtz = Cfb Hall of Fame.

Shall I list all of the Asst Coaches at UMn who made the Cfb Hall of Fame or made it big in the NFL?

Partial list

Biggie Munn - frmr Gopher & UMn Asst Cch = Cfb HOF. Didn't so much leave Minnesota as he didn't want to wait for Bernie Bierman to retire.
Bud Wilkinson - frmr Gopher & UMn Asst Cch = Cfb HOF. Didn't so much leave Minnesota as he didn't want to wait for Bernie Bierman to retire.
Tad Weiman - UMn Asst Cch = Cfb Hall of Fame.
Mike Shanahan - Head Coach of the 2 time Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos.
Mike Martz - Head Coach of the Super Bowl Champion St Louis Rams

Add the former Gophers who succeeded elsewhere who did not coach at Minnesota, that I know about, Gil Dobie = Cfb HOF, Clark Shaughnessy = Cfb HOF, Bud Grant = CFL & NFL HsOF, only person EVER to be inducted into both as a coach, Tony Dungy = NFL HOF, Marc Trestman = 3 CFL Grey Cup Titles, Dave Skrein(he did do a stint as a Gopher Asst Coach) = 1 CFL Grey Cup Title, Ossie Solem = HAF Cfb HOF, Jim Malosky = winningest Div 2 cfb coach at time of retirement, and you got an idea why UMn's list of Coaches is more impressive than Miami of Ohio's Cradle of Coaches list.

And it's a University's mission to educate students, not entertain alumni/fans. When they can do both, that's great, but focusing on the later shows you to be a Neanderthal. And so a cfb program that doesn't turn out great coaches is FAILING it's mission.

Looks like a bunch of assistants who did the smart thing and got as far away from Minnesota as possible, that way they had a chance to be successful.

So 6 Natl Titles is not impressive enough for you? I mean, I know Oregon has SO MANY, lol

WTF are you talking about?

Most of those guys moved on because Henry Williams or Fritz Crisler or Bernie Bierman or Murray Warmath already had the Minnesota Head Coaching position, or that is what football coaches do, they move around, alot. How do you not know this?

Hasn't Oregon had like 3 coaches since 2016, and 4 from 2012? Chip left after only 4 years for greener pastures apparently? Helfrich lived off Kelly's success until his, what? Inability to coach or recruit led to what? Did you all fire him or did he leave for a better job? Not sure why the next guy was there for just a year, but your newest coach, I saw his past Head Coaching resume? Why did you hire him? lol

Dude, you gotta have a platform to talk sh1t from, and you don't have that. You hired ONE great coach recently and couldn't keep him, despite having Uncle Phil around to buy you whatever you want/need.

UMn produced FIVE cfb HOF Head Coaches from it's former players, and TWO NFL HOFers and 1 CFL HOFer. Name me another University that can claim that? There might be one? Maybe?

UMn Hired FOUR cfb HOF Head Coaches. Few schools can claim more.

UMn had AT LEAST THREE Asst Coaches go on to make the Cfb Hall of Fame and went on to win 3 Super Bowls.

I think you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

6 titles from when? Certainly not in my lifetime.

If you're a coach in the state of Minnesota, your only chance of success is to GTFO of that state.

No offense man, but there is absolutely nothing going on in Iowa outside of it's college football. Nothing.

Well, cept maybe an occasional good cbb season here or there, and ISU is responsible for at least 1/3rd of the good football and bb in the state.

Minnesota? We have the Vikes, the Twins, the Wild, The Timberwolves, all playing in the month of October, if not regular season games, playoffs for the Twins sometimes, or pre-season games for the T-pups and Wild. We have a Pro Soccer Team, Minnesota United, we have a WNBA team, we have great bands to go watch, if you are in the Twin Cities there is everything under the sun, from Museums and Theatre to hunting and snowmobiling trails going all over, biking trails in the summer, lakes frigging everywhere, and we have the most golfers per capita of any state. And I could go on and on and on.

So are some Minnesotans apathetic towards the Gophers? They can be. Mostly though, the apathetic ones are simply waiting for the team to win more than one big game before they switch from the Vikes to the Gophers.

Others chose in the past to concentrate their fan energy on the Gopher Hockey or Basketball teams, both of whom have had their days in the Spotlight, 72 bb, 74 hk, 76 hk, 77 bb, 79 hk, 80-82 bb, 86-89 hk, 89 & 90 bb, 97 bb, 02 & 03 hk.

Gopher football also had to move back to an outdoor stadium before many of the fans would return, but only after that was combined with a coach able to win more than that one big game. Mason could win the occasional big game, but he also was incredibly skilled at losing huge leads in bowl games or against a ranked Michigan team. Fleck so far has shown he can win one game, actually two, PSU and Auburn in 2019. Had covid not happened, 2020 could have, probably would have been a big year for the Gopher FB team.

Not true.

UM-Duluth won a Div 2 Title in 2010. John Gagliardi won more cfb games than anyone else IN HISTORY at St Johns(Mn.).

UMD's former cfb coach, a former Gopher, retired as the winningest coach in Div 2 history.

So winningest in Div 2, and winningest in Div 3(and all-divisions and all-time).

And Bierman won 5 titles coaching Minnesota in Div 1. How many coaches have won more? Some credit him with 2 more at Tulane. So how many Div 1 coaches can claim 7 Natl Titles? Anyone? lol

Seems to me that Minnesota is the place to be for cfb coaches who want to win a lot.

Another Minnesota team did especially well recently, 2019 I think? I'll look that one up.

Minnesota State-Mankato, got to the Div 2 Natl Title game in both 2014 and 2019.

This thread is about the University of Minnesota, not the other reject programs in the state. The OP made it pretty clear.

Go and read your post, dude. You said, "if you're a coach in the state of Minnesota, your only hope of success is to GTFO of the state."

You are wrong and I proved it.

Fleck also went 11-2 in 2019. When was the last time Oregon's current coach lost fewer than 2 games? Or the coach before that, or the coach before that?

Since UMn won it's first Recognized Natl Title in 1934, they have had

FOUR undefeated Natl Title winning Seasons.

Oregon has only had 3 seasons with 1 loss, NONE of which were Natl Title winning seasons.

I’d suggest you read up on things dude if you don’t know about the programs on the West Coast especially since you are arguing on something that is directly from the West Coast.

So you are going to include Oregon's proximity to California schools, and UDub as your excuse for their sucking as a University? lol

I was waiting for you to bring up some colleges actually close to UO, like in the state of Oregon or something?
