Hoop’s Villain, Reality’s Hero
None of this is the Sixers' fault. Ben Simmons is a pussy.
Simmons gave them plenty of time to avoid this situation

No, they're at fault here as well. They oversold Simmons value and asked for ridiculous trades to teams during Draft Week instead of going for the reasonable route. Now there's no one willing to pick him up when this should've been done ages ago.
They can’t trade that asset for pennies on the dollar. They made a wise move. No, they're at fault here as well. Oh you mean through his agent he vocalized that he was a bitter bitch and wanted out because he was criticized for coming up small in the playoffs again? The Sixers don’t owe Simmons shit.Simmons gave them plenty of time to avoid this situation

Not if the market wasn't there. Taking 30 cents on the dollar because Simmons wants to leave is a pretty bad idea.
This is on both. What percentage of the responsibility each carries is debatable...but both are responsible for this and neither side looks particularly good at this point.
The Sixers are responsible because Embiid essentially put the blame for the loss solely on Simmons. Obviously, what Simmons did was pretty egregious...but it's not like they were down 1 with 5 seconds left and he passed on that dunk. They had time to forget about that play and win the game. They didn't. Simmons play may have "changed the game" as Embiid said, but that's only because the coaches and players allowed it to.
Doc said what he said...that, like when your wife asks you if these jeans make her ass look too big, was a "must lie situation". I get that it was a tough loss and everyone was emotional. But Doc has been in the league as a player or coach for what? 40 years? He knows this.
They probably could have still salvaged the situation...but no one in the organization came to his defense. I don't remember a single teammate, assistant coach or front office person saying anything to defend him.
For Bens' part...he bitched out on the play, he bitched out by not owning how bad that play was, he's had years to work on his game and hasn't and he's bitched out by ghosting the Sixers when he should be working with them to get himself to the best situation possible.
Personally, I put it 60% on Ben 40% on the Sixers.
Imo, going into the season with Ben sitting out is a worse idea.
Replay your argument in your head. Some guys said some things in the heat of the moment after a disappointing loss. His “get me out of town” response is the stuff of an epic vagina. A player paid $147 million shouldn’t need to be told that you should add to your game, that you should work towards your potential. That’s the shit that becomes evident to most around 3rd or 4th grade. To me, this is like after a person with serious mental health issues decides to take their life loved ones will replay interactions in their head convincing themselves that if they didn’t say that or they didn’t do that, their loved one would still be alive. But when you actually get out of the emotional attachment and look at things rationally, that person took their life because they were unstable and there isn’t anything anyone else could have done to prevent that horrible outcome. It’s just part and parcel with someone having debilitated mental health. Ben Simmons is a princess who has had smoke blown up his ass his whole life. He sulked because Jimmy Butler was given ball handling duties in the playoffs during the Kawhi Toronto year and the Sixers stupidly chose Simmons and Brett Brown over Butler. Enough is enough. Someone else can coddle this bitch. Is this the Sixers fault? Yes it is. But not for the reasons you cite. It’s because they allowed this kid to become a monster without addressing it. And that predates Doc and Morey. This is on both. What percentage of the responsibility each carries is debatable...but both are responsible for this and neither side looks particularly good at this point.

I disagree for many reasons.Imo, going into the season with Ben sitting out is a worse idea.
You can't low ball Morey, or meet him in the middle, or give him just a "good" deal...If the Sixers go start off with a winning record in the first ten games, they are just going to wait until December. Other teams will eventually realize that they can't low ball Morey and then something will happen.

He's only gonna accept top dollar for the malcontent who can't shoot and is currently nowhere to be found...

I don't disagree with you on ^this^ point.Simmons has 4 years left on his deal. He wants to give that up then good for him.
Regardless of how we got here the Sixers have no choice but to play hard ball.

The real “botching” emanates from years ago when they didn’t hold him accountable for his inability to add to his game. He’s never been pushed or challenged. He’s never had his minutes threatened. They fueled the creation of a princess and it’s hurtled headlong out of their control. It’s pointless because it is what it is, but I come back to the off season after the Toronto exit. You get a nice haul of picks and role players for Ben Simmons. You resign Butler and Tobias Harris. Butler essentially becomes your do-everything combo guard playing off of Embiid and Harris is your 3rd scoring option. That’s the moment where the Sixers could have changed this trajectory. Now we’re seeing the aftermath of that mistake play out.Maybe.
But only because they botched everything about this situation since their playoff exit last season.
We are getting a different reason every day for why Simmons wants out of Philly. To be honest, this one makes sense. I’ve said here before that a dominant 5 is likely the worst pairing for Ben Simmons game. But isn’t it clear this dude is crazy? We’re up to like the 5th or 6th “reason” this dude wants out.
Maybe.
