I agree, nobody should want Russell, I just dream of the day he is gone. I think Beverly/Beasley and some combination of McDaniels or future picks could get it done. That allows the 76ers to retain at least some of the perimeter D and add 2 to 3 good 3 point shooters to unclog the paint for Embiid.

I would rather give up future picks than McDaniels myself.
Yuk.

Covingtons time as an elite trade chip is over. Adding him as an expiring would have to be pretty underwhelming for the sixers I have to think.

Of course he isn’t an elite trade chip.

He is a non-negative salary filler trade chip.

Sexton + Covington is a hell of a lot better than Sexton + Love

Balmero as well
I have no idea what to expect from that guy, but I am excited to find out! He could be a value add to get Simmons as well. I think the Wolves do have the pieces to get it done, but Gupta is also in an interim status, would he be allowed to spend the needed pieces to do it?

If the Wolves don't add Simmons now then they will be offloading KAT for below value in a few years and resetting once again.

Edit: I know they did not give Gupta the interim tag, but it still feels interim to me.

I agree better, but I still don't think it enough, or maybe I don't want to believe it because the Wolves need him.

If he were around the facility you’d be right. But it will be out of sight out of mind

You don't think there will be constant questions to the players and coaches? That there won't be daily commentary on virtually every talk show?

Not to mention all of that money being spent with zero production.

Imo, the Sixers need to decide whether they want to get to the finals or punish Simmons. I'd also add that trading him for what they can get and making the finals while he plays for a team that will be fighting for a lower end playoff spot...would be the best way to punish him.

Kevin Love has negative value to the Sixers. He would get 7-8 minutes a night now that they’re already committed to Drummond as a back up 5.

Not sure how it works with the cap...but maybe they could do the trade with Sexton and Love, then negotiate a buyout with Love? Obviously, that would only be if they couldn't find something a little better. But it would beat having to go through the season with him sitting out.

No he doesn’t.

Neither fit particularly well, as both have skill sets that limit them to being back ups for the 2 best players on the team.
He is a very good passer and can shoot from distance.

Drummond is a horrible passer.

The only kind of deal that takes this team to the level of contender is if they get Dame or Beal. Sexton doesn't make them a contender. McCollum doesn't make them a contender. What's more likely in your stated opinion is that Simmons goes somewhere else and becomes the player they thought he could be and the Sixers get back some guys with potential they never realize.

You are never getting that player in Philly, so you need to stop thinking of him like that.

Ahhhh...and there it is. Your goal is Love to the Lakers when people are talking about LeBron having to play the 4 and Brow the 5 on that roster. Lakers would love to get Love to be in their rotation. All things are relative and despite Love being broken down and overpriced, he'd be a major rotation piece for them. Your move is great....for the Lakers. The Sixers are already over the cap so buying out Love doesn't even free them up to spend the savings on a FA.

Ok, Celtics fan. I was responding to this idea that this Simmons deal could make them a contender. My comment was that would be the case if the deal involved Dame or Beal. I agree with you that isn't happening at this point. Dame and Beal really don't care much about winning or they would have made their demand this summer.

It's gotten so bad among Sixers fans with hate towards Ben that the fanbase will give Morey as much latitude as he needs. Many of us are rooting for this to continue through to the trade deadline. Ben Simmons is a feckless **** and any kind of pain, discomfort, embarrassment, etc... that comes his way will be welcomed. Real talk...I hope that he has the presence of mind to pay a team of bodyguards and a food taster for his road trips to Philly going forward. I think you have to go back to Lance Parrish to find a Philadelphia athlete as hated as Ben Simmons is right now. Carson Wentz is silently celebrating that Simmons came along to knock Wentz from that distinction.

lol

Not really the point of my post, but I wouldn't hate that.

Funny thing is, I almost opened that post with "Feeding my desire to get Love to the Lakers..."

Fans might be willing, but tossing a year or so of Embiid's prime to make a point is a dicey proposition. In a vacuum it would be the best way to head off the stream of athletes forcing their way out, but I am not sure the 6ers have the luxury.

That’s the real challenge.

Unless you really suck like the bengals did wirh Carson Palmer, you lose too much.

Side note, which cam rising is the real version?

The one that rose to the occasion off the bench or the trash from last week?

They are a contender as long as they have a healthy Embiid. It's not like the rest of the roster is bereft of talent,

He is a very good passer and can shoot from distance.

Drummond is a horrible passer.

Love is a horrible defender.

And as has been explained, his skill set does not fit with Tobias Harris at all.

If you want to play Love at 5 backing up Embidd instead of Drummond I suppose they could, but everything you gain offensively you are losing on the defensive side, and in that you would basically have to run an entirely different offensive scheme.

And the. We are back to where the Lakers were last year.

You know, when I told you Drummond wasn’t going to help them and that he was excess who didn’t fit at all while you swore he would.

Drummond is a high quality back up center.

So why do you want to bring in a $30 million dollar backup who will take PT from other high quality backups who are much less expensive?

Here's my take on this. The Sixers can keep Ben Simmons...and exit in the 2nd round. They can deal Ben Simmons for 50 cents on the dollar...and exit in the 2nd round. The Sixers can run with what they have and let Simmons rot giving more minutes to guys like Maxey and Thybulle....and exit in the 2nd round. The only thing that changes that math is a deal for Beal or Dame. Ironically, it's the short window of Embiid as an elite player with injury history that means the Sixers can't afford to just give Simmons away.
