If his production stays like it did last season that is a huge steal for many years to come.

Yeah, risk he might fall off the earth, but the contract isn't a huge burden at his age and high ceiling potential (IE...still have value in a trade).

Problem with this is that Melnyk WILL match anything up to the $8.2M mark, I think. And above that is 2 1sts, 1 2nd and a 3rd. I love Tkachuk but he's still only a ~50 point player at this point. I might just take those savings and those picks and walk, no matter how broke of an owner I am.
