Given what's going on in TB thus far in camp..Gio Bernard reportedly being everything that one would expect from a Patriots James White or Dion Lewis, and the tandem of Fournette and Ronnie Jones..I'm wondering if the most recent Patriot trend of multi back committees wasn't more Tom Brady then it was BB and McDaniels. Given what I've already laid out as the Hoodie's long time trends of preferring a lead back, (which is pretty black and white) and the way Michel was used until he was dinged up and then the way Harris was used thereafter - and then Michel again once Harris was dinged up at the end- ..I'm even more of the belief that the Patriots will have a primary back..as well as a passing down specialist of course, and not some 5 back committee, this year. Now, whether that is Harris by virtue of being the incumbent, or Stevenson beats him out, that remains to be seen. But i do expect to see a single Patriots RB getting 15-20 carries a game, regularly, at least as long as he's healthy.
So who would you keep? Henderson fer a 16th or Harris fer a 19th?

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders.

Actually not a bad theory. :10:

Henderson...I still think there's an addition coming to that backfield, however, whoever that is, will still be behind Henderson, and won't take more than a handful of touches away per game.

Whereas with Harris..if Stevenson is what I think he is..Harris could easily find himself as the lesser guy who steals a handful of touches from the lead dog. And even if Stevenson isn't all that I think he could be, he's definitely a better goal line back. And wether its Cam or Jones, TD's are not going to be exactly flowing out of that offense anyways.

Yup, my thinking is the only other player that I have that might be an option over Hendo in the 16th is Taysom in the 19th if he wins the job hands down............and that is a big if.

Well anyone as the "goal line back", is gonna have to hope Mac Jones is the QB sooner rather than later, cuz Newton is the goaline back as long as he's under center, regardless of who is behind him.
thats why i noted it, cam was in, when cam was in last year, no one is even getting a touch on the goal line

I think it's a tough row to hoe for Taysom to start. It's not enough for him to better than Winston.

Taysom plus Winston on the bench has to better than Winston plus Taysom as a gadget.

Hm... looking back over things, it looks more like a personnel thing. In 2010 Green-Ellis was healthy and had Danny Woodhead and an old Fred Taylor behind him and got 229 carries. In 2011 Woodhead still got his touches but Ridley horned in - Green-Ellis played every game but only got 181 carries. In 2012 they let Green-Ellis go and Ridley got 290 carries with Woodhead still being Woodhead and Shane Vereen and Branden Bolden as spot contributors. In 2013 they brought in Blount and gave him 153 carries to Ridley's 173. In 2014 everybody was hurt and nobody got 100 carries. In 2016 Blount was a stud... etc.

Basically if they have a stud he gets the ball. If they have two studs they share.

My prediction - if healthy, Stevenson and Harris will both end up with 120-160 carries. Tack on 20 more if Jones starts more games than Cam.

Yes it's definitely a personnel thing..which makes the question boil down to...is Harris or Stevenson, or both, or neither, that type of guy? Rather than the question being "well, its NE, can you rely on any one RB?"

Again, I'd say your dead on balls accurate in that prediction.

UNLESS, Harris or Stevenson prove they are capable, reliable and productive as THE guy. If they can/do..I don't think BB will have any reservations giving one 225 carries and the other 75. It's what he was on pace to do with Harris/Michel before injuries to both made it appear like it was a split, and, it what he's done throughout his career...when he's had the personnel to do so.

Watched the Bengals first half or so yesterday...I gotta say, I'm supremely disappointed in J. Chase and his alligator arms. 2 of his 3 targets, perfect passes, right in the hands, but because he was venturing over the middle and the MLB was in the area, he short armed and dropped em both. Best get over that shit son.

Yeah you think he will catch on quick especially with his athleticism and in college he had great hands. It takes others longer than others and then of course there are the guys that just never can adjust

Yep..I don't think it's a question at all as to whether he has good hands or not. Just getting over that. Initial hesitancy...which, like you said, some guys just don't. Others, maybe they just need a good pop in practice so they know that, "yeah, that hurt, but I'm OK, I can do this."

Hoping he's the latter. Cuz, if not, I blew a ton of capital in a couple drafts for the next Laquan Treadwell.

He was getting "nfl open" in the game with little problems, granted that's not much separation, but it is getting open. From what I saw, that's already been rectified...that or the WFT secondary..one of the best in the league..was taking it easy on him.
