Johnson averaged 86ypg. Rice 75. Moss averaged 70.

Johnson averaged 15.8ypc. Moss 15.6. Rice 14.8.

Rice played for 21 years. Johnson only played 9. Here are all three of their stats through 9 seasons. Went with 9 because that's how many Megatron played.

Rice: 708 catches / 11,776 yards / 118 TD's. He led the league in catches 2x, led the league in yards 4x & TD's 6x. And through 9 seasons he averaged 16.9 yards per catch. Eight consecutive 1,000 yard seasons his first 9 years. Didn't miss a game.

Johsnon: 731 / 11,619 / 83. Led league in catches once, yards twice & TD's once. Seven 1,000 yard season his first 9 years. Missed 14 games in 9 seasons.

Moss: 676 / 10,700 / 101. Never led the league in catches. Seven 1,000 yards season his first nine seasons. Never led the league in yards. Led league in TD's 3x. Missed 6 games his first nine season.

Moss & Johnson also played in a much more pass-happy league compared to Rice.

Just find it funy how you always disagree with everything.

That MVS team was doing something different and they had it down. They were destroying the opposition, wipe outs. I can't see anyone being able to stop it. First off nobody could hang with Rice, and Willie Totten was as good as anyone that season. Sure no 70 to 10 games but can see 32-28 vs a power five team. And unlike what we see now LSU 88 Savannah State 7, we;d see none of that, more LSU 34 MSV 17.

I only disagree with things that I disagree with and I generally don't even bother with things that I disagree with unless it's something I consider completely off base, like the notion MVS could have hung with the big boys just because they had Rice.

If replies that disagree with you really bother you, maybe you shouldn't post such silly opinions. But if you have a problem with people disagreeing with you, then maybe discussion boards aren't for you. Just a thought.

Ftr MVS lost a couple of games every year Rice played for them.. and a couple of games by a lot.

Rice is an admitted cheater for the entirety of his career. Impossible to compare him to others when you know he was cheating the entire time he played.

Different receivers could keep up with Rice's numbers for periods of their career, but no receiver can come close to matching Rice's numbers for his whole career.

How many times do I have to say this...........love the joust, love to roll around in the blood, the guts and the beer? Dude, agreement is boring, ok? LOVE disagree,,,,,ok? BUT....you disagree about everything.

Obviously to do what that MVS state did in 84 takes more than just a WR, that goes without saying. I have no doubts at al they could beat a few big boys in 1984.

Agree. I doubt I'll see his career numbers surpassed in my lifetime if ever and most (all?) of it under rules that still allowed the defense to blow up WRs.

They didn't even win their conference in 84 and lost to LA Tech by 6 TDs. But sure, whatever you say...

Check out the teams in those power five conferences in 1984, you sure this MVS team couldn't hang?

Neither and the other 9 guys on the field helped a lot as well.

Yes I am. They lost by > 6 TDs to LA Tech and didn't even win their conference.

Anything is possible, but given those facts I don't see the argument that they were worthy of hanging with the big boys any more than any other decent squad in their division.

:laugh3:

Leave it to a Pats fan to say that. Let's see here. Brady's team was caught twice, fine twice and lost draft picks twice for illegally videotaping opponents. And instead of cooperating he destroyed his cell phone and took a 4 game suspension. That's not the actions of someone that has nothing to hide. But of course when the Pats were cheating that's different isn't it?

I'm betting in that La Tech game Totten was injured, or something similiar, and it was the last game of the season. Something unusual going on there, just guessing.

Sure if we delved into the big schools in 84 we'd find a few teams MVP could handle.

Didn't know this thread was about the Pats. Stick to the topic.

Using stickum for the entirety of his career was or was not cheating in your opinion?

The Mel Blount Rule was in 1978, Rice played all of his career under rules that opened up the passing game.....

Would have loved to see what Megatron could have done with a full career and someone like Joe Montana throwing him the ball

Look who was throwing to Rice, then look who was throwing to Johnson. I rest my case.
