Honestly, that's a big deal. The fact that there is still an open roster spot even after Odor was told he didn't make it is significant. What I mean is, the Rangers truly did cut him because of his performance. It didn't come down to him vs. another player or anything.

Yeah, that is exactly the reason they cut him.

Re Odor It really looks like they want to make a fresh start and really that is why Elvis is gone. They obviously have had no significant buyers for Odor or he would be gone by now too

I used to go to all of the home openers before they quit letting you just buy OD tickets for a reasonable price. I was at that one in 1978 and it stands out to me the most. Our beloved radio announcer from the early days, Dick Risenhoover, had just lost his battle with cancer earlier that day. I had spent many nights listening to him call late night games over my transistor radio while I was in bed. When he passed away, I missed hm as much as everyone missed Mark Holtz when he passed. He was only 51.

I think most of us had our doubts they would actually do it.
I had doubts, but I was hoping that the only reason they played him at 3B was to build up a small amount of trade interest, but it didn't work.

The market for Story was set last night. How does everyone feel about what it will take to get him here?

I haven't even read about it yet, but whatever it is, it is the cost of doing business. The reason why our farm system has to be very good is because the one or two great free agents that a team signs will be extremely expensive.

At some point, a team has to spend market value on at least one great player if they intend on winning a World Series. The only way to avoid that is to have a farm system that is head and shoulders above just about every other team's system. That is never going to be us.

 What did I miss...
This is from the NY Post.

"Including this year’s salary, in his last season of arbitration eligibility, Lindor will receive $362.3 million over 11 years, but deferrals will likely lower the present-day value. The $341 million is $1 million more than Fernando Tatis Jr. received this offseason in his 14-year deal from the Padres. Lindor’s deal includes a $21 million signing bonus and a partial no-trade clause. Lindor will get $32 million annually in each of the 10 seasons and $5 million each year deferred to 2032-41."

So another one of the mega dollar income teams signed a decent player to mega dollars.

I wonder if will do them any good in the near future considering they stunk almost as much as the Rangers last year? Spending money doesn't necessarily translate into wins especially if you suck at judging what talent to spend your money on...

Take 2019 for instance: The 2019 MLB Moneyball Report - Worth

I'm in that boat as well. Spending a shit ton of money is pointless if you're not spending it smartly. One dude isn't going to turn the team around.

These 10 and 12 year deals are wrecking the market, in my opinion.

Could not agree more. Seem that teams forget that only one wins the WS. At some point the owners will wake up and realize there really is a ceiling.

Once they get the contract there is no incentive for them to play well anymore...

The fans will end up telling them that before it's over with when ticket prices and concessions are thru the roof, they will spend their money elsewhere. If my family goes to a game we find a nice place to eat before we go to the game. Then take bottled water for during then another place afterwards to eat again and some dancing/drinking to finish out the day, that's if the Grandkids have the stamina to hang with the adults :D
