I would still like to see Lowe get some time in at 3B.

I get that we had to put Odor there all spring so that it looked like we were ready to keep him this year, in order to slightly increase the return in whatever trade we could muster up. The plan is understandable; it just didn't work out. The same kind of plan should be in place for Lowe and Guzman. The appearance that we have room for both needs to be created for future trade purposes.

I usually say trade the best and keep the rest when we have too many players at a given position. At this point we might be able to keep the best and trade the one who is perceived as the best. Let's see what happens.
Wow. I meant to say, "I usually say keep the best and trade the rest." Lol.

Agree about Lowe

Kudos to JD for being willing to allow Odor to be shown the door. If Chris Young was the convincing voice, then kudos to him too, or Woodward for that matter.
I have to be honest and say I didn’t think they would have the balls to make this move

Agree about Lowe at 3B and playing Guzman at 1B.

If they hadn't signed him to that longer contract I suspect they would have done something before now...

Now will this make the team more hesitant to sign players to longer more expensive contract extensions in the future, I would say yes. (As recent example(s) Andrus, Choo and Odor...) And I imagine this practice will limit who they can sign as Free Agents and players who they might try to trade for...

And the contract was what made me think that they wouldn’t have balls to do this. I agree if they hadn’t done that stupid contract he would have been released before now

If they are going to be that gun shy, then it might be time to move on to another less risky line of business.

They should realize that they just need to be smarter. Of the three you mentioned, Elvis was the only one that made sense to me at the time. One thing they have to realize, is that no matter how smart the signing is, sometimes it just isn't going to work out. Your budget has to be ready to absorb a mistake or two along the way. More importantly, you have to be able to admit a mistake and not keep putting that player into the lineup just because of his contract.

I hope we see this team enter this next free agency period with no reservations. Go and find a great player and pay market value for him like they did with Beltre and like they were willing to do with Cliff Lee. They probably need to sign a very good player within the next couple of years as well. Let's hope they are smart about it and go all in, and not settle like they did with Choo, and like they did many years ago with Chan Ho Park.

If they let what they gave up for Lowe make their decision for them, then they are using the same logic that kept Odor starting too long.

Evan Grant says they are making their decision about who is starting at 1B, based on their prior evaluation of Lowe. The Rays evaluated and decided to trade him. I put a lot more stock in how the Rays evaluate players, for now.

If they mess this up and end up losing Guzman, and then have Guzman become our next Adrian Gonzalez, that would make for an infamous set of bookends for JD's tenure here.

Well looks like they may be hedging their bets for this year

Guzman needs every opportunity to prove his ability to hit and this is a perfect time for him to do so. Hopefully Woody agrees and finds a way to have him in as many games as possible. It is time to find out what we have in him and not make the wrong decision. Same can be said for Gallo. No more extensions on players without sound reason to do so. Have we learned anything from past failures?

Who would be in charge of changing the banner? I love all those guys, but they're all gone from the team, and most of them have been for years.

I think Fordman left the board and Romeo only checks in about every 3 or 4 months or so. He could probably do it, if you can remember to ask him about it when he stops by.

I know but who would you put on it. There is a distinct possibility that most would be gone in a year or 2

That is a good point. Maybe, by thus time next year we will have a better idea, but even that might be a tad early.

Who would you guys predict would be on our banner in 3 years, if we can find someone to change it by then? Pick 4 names.

I will go with Huff, Jung, Story and Leiter.
