I would say yes far as today's QBs being superior, but they also have every type of advantage as well. Today's QB and players in general if they are at the level of what we would call an above average player at their position. Has huge advantages over players from 40+ years ago.

The money that players today make, especially QBs, allows for them to focus solely on becoming a better QB. And that's not say today's players don't have other interests outside of the game. But having to get n work at an offseason job is definitely not one of them. Throw in the 24/7/365 dietary plans of today players can engage in. As well as the superior surgeries and medications of today. I remember reading in the 70s how a lotta players worked in the offseason selling cars in the city they played in. Not sure how many players are doing that today. Being the commercial face of a local car dealership n getting a brand new ride every couple years, sure. Going into the dealership every Mon-Fri from 9 to 5, nagatory.

Todays QB grew up playing a higher level of competion in HS and NCAA, so by the time for the NFL they are more ready. Just a quicker game played by better athletes today.

Oh, and I'm not seeing a 180 pound QB lasting long even in today's NFL. Hell, I'm not if many of today's QBs could handle the game the way it was played back in the 70s n 80s.
The best players would be/would’ve been able to adjust.

That said, no player today would have the same eyepopping stats in the 70s and 80s simply because the defenses were allowed a LOT more latitude. No “targeting”, a receiver going over the middle knew he was going to get rocked, QBs could get hammered and were dead meat after INTs, and blindside blocks were perfectly fine.

Jim Brown was already in the NFL before Harris started HS, 14 years difference in age.

Brown ran his mouth after Franco ran him down for running out of bounds.....I think, it's been awhile. They race a 40 or was it two? Franco beating him. Things were different back then with media coverage.

Not sure this is true but the story goes.....

Wilt Chamberlain and Jim Brown at a party, one things leads to the next and....

Out in the yard pant legs rolled up and shoes off, not sure the distance, well.....Wilt beats him twice.

Chamberlain an NCAA high jumper, a 400 guy in high school.

Brown was 48 and pulled a hamstring.

It was along the lines of Bobby Riggs playing BJK.

Hard to believe that once upon a time we actually had The College All Star game, Here we had college all stars playing the reigning NFL Champs. Obviously the kids all jacked up while the pros .....yawn, But the kids did win a couple of those games.

Totally different football world back then.

In their primes I'd bet money the Wilt smokes Jim. Those long legs would've covered a lot of ground.

He acted as if he pulled a hammy. I think it was due to him getting smoked immediately out the gate. As @Pure Steel alludes to n I did earlier. Jim Brown had no love for Franco.

It was like Rodney in Caddyshack after he got hit in the arm by the golfball....."My arm, I think it's broken"

Heh. It was pretty bad. Made all the more embarrassing considering all those years JB badmouthed Franco something fierce .

I have nothing official about the actual speed of Jim Brown, but it is pretty much accepted (for some reason?) 9.8 for a 100 yards a time John Riggins ran winning Kansas as a HSer pretty sure he was lighter then.

I can see a 9.8ish for Brown, that looks about right. Funny thing is the dude next to him Bobby Mitchell was a 9.6.

Histories fastest 1000 yard rusher was Texas A&M/Colts Curtis Dickey he was world ranked, a 9.2/10.10 guy, Big muscled up cat who stuttered.

Some running back/speed chatter...

Back in the 30;s Cy Leland a white RB at TCU tied the 9.5 WR.

Bullet Bob Hayes was a college RB as was Tyreek Hill.

Houston McTear ran a WR 9,0 while at Baker HS, averaged 13 yards a carry as a RB.

Ezekial Elliott and Todd Gurley both stud hurdlers in high school.

O.J.Simpson ran on a WR 4x1 team at USC, a legit 9.4,

Eric Dickerson a HS 9.4.

Adrian Peterson a 10.2ish as a HSer.

Eric Metcalf a 27-8 long jumper, his dad Terry 25-11.

Niners Ryheem Mostert a Big10 100/200 champ.

Size with speed.....

9.5 for yards not meters

All would have had faster times if serious about track, they weren't. Walker 10.23 not 10.22.
