That part doesn’t bug me in the least. His role, as had been now confirmed was the the financial wizard nothing to do with getting to know players. I mean it sucks he doesn’t know but when Stanton brags about all the relationships he has with he these guys I can give Mather a pass on that one.
He doesn't know how pronounce his #1 prospects last name either. No pass on either of those things for me. It is about building relationships and this is the opposite. That part doesn’t bug me in the least. But when have a majority owner who does that, then I just don’t feel Mather needs/needed to. But I can understand people being upset over it. But I’ve subscribed to Billy Beane’s philosophy of don’t become friends with the players. He doesn't know how pronounce his #1 prospects last name either. No pass on either of those things for me. Knowing your players is a far cry from being friends with them Randy Johnson wanted out (final straw) when Armstrong at Christmas about his dad. His dad dies a few days before. I have owned a business in the past and you have to know your employees but not be all in their business either. Not knowing a name is just bad business 101.But when have a majority owner who does that, then I just don’t feel Mather needs/needed to. But I can understand people being upset over it. He's arguably the guy I am watching the closest. There's something there with him but whether he can put together enough to be an MLB starter remains to be seen.
I guess we disagree, I think all big business’ need that bad guy who looks at the bottom line and doesn’t care about the players/employees. But on that same note he/shouldn’t be a face of the franchise like a President/CEO as if he/steps in like Mather did so you can let that person go without the question being is that how everyone thinks.Knowing your players is a far cry from being friends with them Randy Johnson wanted out (final straw) when Armstrong at Christmas about his dad. I agree 100% with that. A guy that does his job should be locked away and not be part of interaction with on-field people. Let him be the grim reaper of the business but not the spokesman. He can't be both and that is where the problem started.I guess we disagree, I think all big business’ need that bad guy who looks at the bottom line and doesn’t care about the players/employees. From what I saw last year, there was just some zip missing from his pitches but he also got some goods outs without it. I have not figured him out so please let me know when you do. I am pulling for him. Seems like a kid we want to keep around. He's arguably the guy I am watching the closest. I guess you stated it better than I. Honestly I have heard of him and blah blah, but never really knew what he honestly did because, at least I, never saw him out shaking hands and kissing babies or really heard he do interviews.I agree 100% with that. I prefer a starting lineup that doesn't include Long or Moore in it on a regular basis. But winning isn't the goal so flip a coin. From what I was listening to. Ideally Shed Long wins the 2B job and Moore kicks out to LF. But I would still prefer Lewis in LF and Kelenic in CF.
I don’t want that either. But that was way some people were thinking that it was Jerry was hoping for. I actually like Moore, he just doesn’t have a position to play. He played admirable in the OF last year but he isn’t a starting OF.I prefer a starting lineup that doesn't include Long or Moore in it on a regular basis. But winning isn't the goal so flip a coin.
