I don’t think he is doing that either. But that doesn’t him, or those other fans correct.

I remember Wilt Chamberlain being quoted sometime in the 90s I believe saying he would average 70 per game in the modern league. And Russell agreed with him!

Former players are usually completely delusional when it comes to their abilities vs. current players.

Which is why I find it refreshing to see comments from guys like KG and Kerr who say exactly the opposite.
I bet no one got in Wilts face about it even at his age then lol

On this one I'm in the middle. I agree with Trojan that the 80s seemed to (I remember the 80s but not to the detail that I'd consider myself an expert) be the best blend of offense and defense.

Yeah, I've been following the NBA since 1970. In the 70's, the NBA was still something of a "barnstorming league" and championship series games that were played on weeknights were on tape delay at 11:30 at night.

Since then, the game has undergone a lot of changes. Most for the better.

Imo, they need to go back to something closer to the way the game was played/called in 80's. Many of today's bigs would have done really well in the 80's, imo.

If you asked Shaq himsellf he'd probably tell you he'd be fine because guys couldn't be as physical with him now as they were. It would be interesting to see how he'd do.

And literally no one has said he wouldn't. Not one person. In fact, I said he would still be a monster, but also pointed out the areas where he would struggle. Which were pretty much the same things he struggled with during his career.

UK made a claim that was categorically wrong, he got called on it and instead of just accepting that, he decided to double down on stupid, accuse folks of saying things that were never said, start handing out "poop" emojis and namecalling folks for disagreeing with him.

You may have had good interactions with him in other forums, but all he's done here is make an ass of himself.

lol

So a post on the NBA board that has nothing to with politics...somehow reflects negatively on non-liberals in the politics forum.

It's probably about time for you to run along.
He already has...oh wait he's back. Hope he stays a while.

Same in every sport.

Improvements in skill and training, and salaries (and thus drive to be a great athlete) make for better athletes.

Actually, he would probably be alright. Maybe not as good, but he would have a role.

Guys who succeeded because of skill would see their games translate best.

Well this thread has turned into nonsense. How hard is it to grasp that players today are a lot more skilled? But it isn't like the players in the past weren't also freaks that were born to play basketball. But anybody that thinks a team from yesteryear could hop off a time machine and dominate todays game is kidding themselves. They'd get smoked. You got to get a hand in players faces from 26 feet now.

He would only a struggle against a sharp shooting, fast pace team like the old Warriors with Durant/Curry/Thompson and they are no longer. Shaq would avg a CAREER 35-20 in this trash league with some 70-85 point games thrown in.

Doubtful. Basically, he would be Giannis...still a great player, but limited in ways that make it hard to get to the finals, let alone win a title.

Okk... What "all time great collection of big men" is going to stop him from having his way on everything and everyone today? Shaq played in the 90s and 2000s when the league still had a host of great, talented big man around. There are what? 3-4 around today? HA!!.. If that. What is Draymond Green gonna shut him down or what?
