i agree with you that it would be impossible to keep them all. All the Dt's should be on the table for a trade for Watson or Stafford.

I completely agree. Now the rest of the trade compensation goes way down for the much older Stafford.

I am not sure everyone is aware of a problem with Watson. Houston would face nearly 70 million in dead space by trading him.

If we can get Stafford for a 2nd we should do it.

For those who think we can keep all of our DL...

Kenny Clark signed a 4 year, 70 million dollar contract. I think Allen, Payne, and Ion are better than Clark. It will cost at least that to keep any of them when they come due.

Allen will be a FA after next season, and I would suggest he will be at a minimum...18 million per season.
Payne will be a FA after 2022, and I would suggest he will be at a minimum...19 million per season.
Ioannidis will be a FA after 2022, and I would suggest he will be at a minimum...15 million per season.
Settle will be a FA after 2021. He is a bit trickier. Expect minimum...12 million.

Joey Bosa signed a 5 year, 135 million.

Sweat will be a FA after 2023, and I would expect him to push a minimum...30 million per season.
Young will push 35 million per season when he comes around.

To keep that DL together, that is nearly 130 million each season. We can’t keep them all. When will we learn to trade while value is high and we have quality in house replacements? We need a QB. Watson could be that guy for the next 10 years, throwing to TM, and being protected by Scherff.
Yeah, keeping all of them is cost prohibitive, unless they are the best that's been here in a long time and/or going to eventually be entered into our ring of honor! {Sigh} :L

And then there's this...

Texans rumors: Houston's demands in a Deshaun Watson trade ...

Quick summary:
If Watson were to be traded, the Texans could expect a pretty sizable return according to Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado via Twitter.

Texans aren't trading Watson, nor has that been discussed. I asked for a hypothetical offer that might move him last night.

If they offered Stafford and a second, I'd have to really think about that. I like getting a second, but hate getting Stafford.

the dominance of the d/line makes this defense work at a high level . weakening it like that makes it less so .

now can watson work with thomas and our WR corp ? because somewhere a need wont get addressed if you have to strip the resources to get needs then there is another issue

so i go back to this , patience , look for the right fit and dont go for the big splash unless you can . signing some one to an expensive contract and giving up resources as well isnt a good idea to me

Not trading Payne and Allen, but if I have to in order to get Watson, then it has to be Payne. I man will be back next year and then there's the draft to help in replacing what's lose in a move like this.
watson will cost , the texans are going to want high picks as well so drafting a guy could be harder

old skinsdad said early on, about 1-4 , when making the playoffs would encourage us thinking we are better then we truly are and then becoming impatient and go for the big score .

if going after watson guts your next few drafts , eats up your cap space , and weakens your strength will we get to where we want to be any faster ?

and you forget better organizations are going to be bidding on mr watson so overpaying on our part is a certainty because we are a losing team with a bad owner

just 2 weeks ago dean was saying our wr corp sucks and we need TY hilton . now he wants watson and then forcing us to keep whom he doesnt like

now i can eat all that crow if he comes here but i dont see it happening

Dak Prescott's "available" in March. He's already been franchised this year. Does he want to stay in Dallas? The second franchise tag will be like $37 million. Washington has like $50 million in cap space for 2021.
Yak Prescott would be no better with this team than Allen

Even if the rumors are true, and I have to emphasize that almost everything that I've read or heard about this are rumors, the cost is going to be enormous. Thus far 3 firsts, 3 seconds and a player, yet, I'm still interested. I'm not sure is I'm willing to pay that kind of price though.

I don't see him coming here either, but this has been a good hypothetical thought exercise. Hell this team made the playoffs with ONLY 7 wins, with that kind of luck, can't we spare a little time on nearly impossible dreams?

So you don’t think very highly of Watson then. QBs that are as good as I see in Watson don’t hit the market...unless they are 38-40 years old.

Incorrect.

Instead, I think highly of building through the draft.

I said the same exact thing - the benefit of getting Watson does NOT outweigh the cost of gutting the draft this year or multuple drafts this year and next, especially when saving the draft picks and building up the rest of the team, THEN trading a surplus asset - say, a Dlineman - for a missing piece type of player is a MUCH smarter play.

what did we get in those drafts without those picks ? research that and see because be able to build through the draft will be key
