I THINK I have it right, now. If I have everything, we should actually be at 59 on the 60. But that assumes Wong and Siri are actually there, which I am NOT confidant about.
Everything I read says Siri CANNOT be counted on the 60 player pool. Wong could but I've not seen anything that says he was officially added to that pool.I THINK I have it right, now. Added earlier, or added post-DFA?Everything I read says Siri CANNOT be counted on the 60 player pool. Wong could but I've not seen anything that says he was officially added to that pool.
One more, from MLBTradeRumors:I THINK I have it right, now. If I have everything, we should actually be at 59 on the 60. But that assumes Wong and Siri are actually there, which I am NOT confidant about.
Post-DFA. He was one of the guys on the 40 who was left off the 60 for summer training. Only Adon and Shaw are left on the 40 who are not in the 60.Added earlier, or added post-DFA?
Updated for Brantly. One more, from MLBTradeRumors:
"The Giants assigned catcher Rob Brantly to their alternate training site, per The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly (via Twitter). The 31-year-old catcher cleared waivers after appearing in one game for the Giants, going hitless in three at-bats. Tyler Heineman and Chadwick Tromp are the catchers that remain on San Francisco’s active roster."
This one makes no sense. If Brantly cannot be added back to the 60 player pool, why not just release him? Why is he able to be assigned to the alternate training site?
Found this on the Giants' transaction page. It is very telling on where some guys are in the 60 player pool (in my opinion):Updated for Brantly.
My guess is that they still would want him to work with their pitchers in camp? And I guess this also kinda answers my question about there existing a minor league camp for non-60 players
I am not certain what the point of the taxi squad is, so I will not track it. Is there anything special about it?The Giants (like all other teams) had to pare down their roster to 28 players. So they optioned Steven Duggar and Andrew Suarez to AAA. Apparently, Suarez was on the roster since Monday, replacing Andrew Triggs, who was optioned on Monday.
The Giants now have a 5 man taxi squad, consisting of Dereck Rodriguez, Suarez, Triggs, Chris Herrmann and Duggar.
Also, the Giants announced that Hunter Bishop was added to the 60 player pool.
I believe the taxi squad is for any sudden roster moves. I thought it was for any player that tests positive, they have someone ready to fill in immediately. However, MLB just shuts down games now if one or more player tests positive. So I'm not really sure the point, other than to get more guys exposed if someone does get sick . . .I am not certain what the point of the taxi squad is, so I will not track it. Is there anything special about it?
I dropped Triggs and Duggar and added Bishop to the 60.
Again, I THINK I have it right. Please let me know if you see anything off or if you have an idea for a better format this year...
I don’t think Moronta was removed from the 45-day IL (this years version of the 60-day). I think this is essentially a rehab assignment(???).Notes: Moronta, Bishop go to alternate site
The further this wacky season goes, the more I think 40 man and 60 player rules are mere suggestions. But its good to see Moronta making progress back.
I thinking about Moronta. Can guys be assigned to the alternate training site without being on the 60 player pool? Then what is the point of the pool, if teams can have as many players as they want there? Or can guys on the 45 day IL be exempted from the 60 player pool?I don’t think Moronta was removed from the 45-day IL (this years version of the 60-day). As for Bishop, we had the room on 60 roster, so that doesn’t “break” anything.
Assuming my understanding is correct, Moronta is, in a way, on the 60-man. Just like someone on on the 60-day is still on the 40-man. I really don’t see any problems with this move.I thinking about Moronta. Can guys be assigned to the alternate training site without being on the 60 player pool? Also, I'm still trying to figure out why players who get dfa'd can get put back on the 60 player pool. The rules I've read seem to indicate that they cannot, but MLB Trade Rumors regularly mentions these guys being at least assigned back to the alternate site.
Oh, and 41 players on the 40 man roster is driving me crazy.
You didn't see my post that Jordan Humphreys was added to the 40 man roster.Assuming my understanding is correct, Moronta is, in a way, on the 60-man. Just like someone on on the 60-day is still on the 40-man. I really don’t see any problems with this move.
as for the 40-man count, we fixed that a couple weeks ago...
I thought I made that change...You didn't see my post that Jordan Humphreys was added to the 40 man roster.
I wonder why. The Giants' transaction page only lists that he was placed on the 10 day on July 8th. It doesn't list any subsequent move to the 45 day IL. If he is on that, he won't be able to return to game action until the 23rd of this month but I think he's been throwing since July 15th at the alternate site. I guess we'll see what happens in the next two weeks.I thought I made that change...
Done.
I think I might have found the 40-man issue. Jarlin Garcia is not listed on the 40-man on Roster Resources. Maybe he was placed on the 45-day?
