I think we can survive a year without watching Alabama and Auburn play West Carolina and Samford the week before playing eachother in November

Our AD is already priming the pump for reduced attendance. Talking about refunds, but framing it in the conversation about the University needing the money to guilt you into donating it. I am fully prepared for 20% attendance like Ohio State announced. Based on the demand. I expect some of these secondary prices to be insane.

Yea good luck on the secondary market for tickets this year.

It's going to likely result in Ohio State getting fat on Big Slow cupcakes then losing to Clemson in the post season AGAIN.

Don't fret Coots......the SC Legislature is trying to ensure you tote a 7th straight loss in the Palmetto Bowl this year.

SC Legislator wants to try and save Clemson-South Carolina game

Because the Gamecocks are a member of the SEC, it means there will be no Clemson-South Carolina game for the first time since 1909, subsequently ending the second longest uninterrupted series in college football.

“I’m very disappointed,” said Mike Burns, South Carolina Representative for District 17. “After going through all we are going through… And now to find out that the Southeastern Conference is not wanting to allow these rivalry games is very disheartening.”

“When you look back over history, and this series began in 1896, we have been through World Wars and been through multiple other pandemics and plagues. Even when President John Kennedy was assassinated the game was moved from Saturday to the following Thanksgiving Thursday,” Burns said to The Clemson Insider. “But the games have gone on. And now we do not see the value of keeping that from the Southeastern Conference. I am quite disappointed.”

Burns is so disappointed he is hoping he can get his fellow state legislators involved in passing a bill that could possibly save the game this year.

“Hopefully, we can exert some pressure and see if we can get somebody to listen to the people in South Carolina that this game needs to be played,” he said.

It would not be the first time the South Carolina Statehouse has stepped in and forced Clemson and South Carolina to play a football game. In 1952, the Southern Conference banned Clemson and Maryland from playing conference games due to accepting and playing in bowl games following the 1951 season. However, the ruling did allow for the playing of any game required by state law. This left an inviting loophole for the South Carolina Legislature. They passed a bill that year that required both schools play each other in football.

Burns says this year’s state legislature is going to see what they can do to find a similar loophole in the SEC’s decision. The ACC has already given Clemson room to play a non-conference game by its ruling on Wednesday.

“Given the chance to do it, absolutely, we are going to try,” Burns said. “We are trying to get back in session for some other issues and this would be something good to also have a conversation about and see what we can come up with on it. Absolutely, we would love to try and do that.”

Per his SC General Assembly bio Mike Burns is a 1974 graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Says the fan of a team that had Bowling Green and Buffalo lined up for this year, and powerhouses like Akron, Arkansas State, Toledo, Western Kentucky, San Jose State, Ball State and more power teams in the future. Glass houses and all.

My guess is far less than 20% ... I can't see them letting in more 10,000 at most, more likely 2-3K to start with.

Doing otherwise would be about the dumbest thing ever. Imagine bringing in 50K, them yelling the entire time, high fiving the folks next to them. Then going back home throughout the state. No school wants the headline, "2,000 [school name here] Fans Infect Thousands Back Home."

Which begs the question: Why let in any fans at all?

How many times do teams actually play more than 1 decent/good OOC game?

It was a shot at the idiots who were saying “ban conferences from the playoff not playing OOC games”

The games against the MAC and Sun Belt teams are generally worthless for the higher up teams. It’s more of a payday that those smaller schools need.

yes only Big 12 teams are eligible now

Oh, you missed the memo yesterday in the other thread. The ACC is in it too since they preserved an OOC game. But since we all know how a postseason game between Oklahoma and Clemson goes (or Oklahoma vs. any team really), we've already won the 2020 title. Congrats on a strong second though.

Refunds are "optional" at OSU. So, it looks like they're trying to guilt people into donating/catch some lazy rich people.

I can't see fans at the stadiums; unless it's like player's family. With everything trending up in numbers, we're lucky to have a season let alone fans in stadiums. I think the fact that OOC games are canceled should indicate that fans probably aren't going to be in stands. The news yesterday was that the B10 is reorganizing schedules so key matchups happen earlier. I fully expect a late Sep/Early October Mich vs OSU game.

I've been waiting years for this day.
You've been waiting for it because in your mind you think it makes a difference. It really doesn't.

Auburn adding Missouri and South Carolina is actually very little difference to opening the year to Washington or Oregon. The real reason you are happy is that we can't keep embarrassing the PAC and keeping you out of the CFP.

I could use any time you want in the last 35 years. You've got a losing bowl record since 1983. But that's fair, you were really dominant in the 40s and 50s. I mean, I'm 30 and my parents weren't even alive then, but that still counts just as much as this millennium.

That's right Grandpa, you were really good back then. You remember Bud? Go have a nice rest in your rocking chair with Michigan and Notre Dame and talk about the good old days.

Because it's still football at the end of the day, right? I do think they can get fans in the stands.. it's going to look strange but it is what it is.

OU has been relevant for a very long time, and will win a title again soon. I wish you all the luck in the world, it’s not easy.
