Look, I actually said after last season that the Eagles needed to draft a QB to groom behind Wentz because he could clearly not be relied upon. I get that. I just don't like this QB and this pick this high. They could have had Mims and Reagor in the first two rounds. That would be much more helpful to the offense right now.

There are a ton of veteran Qbs on the market also. They could have signed a guy like Flacco, who is from the area, to back up Wentz for a year or two.

Apparently Sheil Kapadia of The Athletic asked Doug and Howie in a press conference last night, "What is the best case scenario for the Jalen Hurts pick?" and they stuttered and had no good answer. That is a great question and the fact that they had no answer tells you everything you need to know.

The best case scenario of course is that he supplants Wentz and becomes a star. But they were seemingly clueless about the fact that this might cause issues in the locker room, a locker room that apparently is already not great.

That’s why I think the pick has a lot to do with managing the cap.

The Eagles have made it clear that they think the backup QB is an important position. A good veteran backup QB costs anywhere from $5-10 million, and some of them aren’t even that good.

Jalen Hurts will costs what...$1.5-2.0 million per year for 4 years? They’re saving $12-32 million over the next 4 years by drafting him, with the possibility that they’re able to swap him for picks at some point during that time frame.

I don’t like the pick but I think this is why they did it, particularly given Wentz’s injury history.

This seems like the most reasonable explanation. I said something similar to an Eagles fan friend of mine.

The Taysom Hill rationalization is a LOT weaker.

Wentz's injury history is just too big a problem to ignore.

At this point I believe every possibility is a possibility. Cap, Wentz injury history, locker room issues, pushing Wentz, insurance, futures trade....you name it. I would not discount anything but I personally believe that there are unreported issues in the background.

At this point it is what it is. I wanted Mims probably more then anybody. He was one of my favourite players available. Thought he was huge value at that point as I thought he could have been a 1st round pick. But maybe this turns into a future first round pick in a trade.......or we are calling Howie a genius in 6 months if Wentz goes down. Can’t deny what the kid did in his last season. Could be a huge upside. I don,t like it but time to move on

The counter is that you also lose savings because you’ll have to find a starter or at least contributor for other positions - safety, CB, LB, and DE all need to be addressed as well as OL depth. Probably could use another WR too.

Did you whiny bitches with your bleeding cunts enjoy the Super Bowl?
I guess I was happy enough to see Andy win. Pretty much the only option I could get behind once the eagles were knocked out.

I think if it was about Wentz injury history, there were better QBs to pick up

What don’t you like today?

I don't like how they handled the fourth round. They had three picks and managed to come out of it with only one guy that I think will ever have a chance to play in K'Von Wallace. I think the Auburn tackle is probably a guard backup type in the NFL and absolutely nothing special. Some of these guards going in the 6th round I think have as much of a shot as that guy.

Hightower, Watkins and Goodwin speed, speed and more speed today. Plus Reagor on day one.

Glad they considered it a weakness and tried to address it.

I like Wallace but I’m partial to safeties from Clemson.

The linemen, I really don’t know. The Eagles have historically been pretty good at drafting them...but obviously they don’t hit on every pick.

I think the best way to get everyone off the Howie bandwagon is to call them cucks. Well done.

As for the pick, I’m as flabbergasted as the rest of you. Especially at first blush.

But, thinking about it, I think this speaks a lot to finally closing gaps in the roster that the free agent market and moderate money haven’t covered.

The Reagor pick was to finally get a solid option for the future at speed receiver. They tried to do it on the market for years and it hasn’t worked well.

Similarly, since letting Foles go they have signed McCown, a solid backup, as long as he doesn’t have to play much, drafted Thorson later (still early....but he bombed). You can draft another QB later and hope, but we’ve been hoping on a lot of things not panning out for years.

I think this also says a lot about the organizations faith in Wentz staying (and keeping himself) healthy. What if we had someone of Hurts talent to come in against Seattle last year?

It’s perplexing. But it’s also a talented player at a spot that, unfortunately, is important for us with Wentzs injury history.

Spelled: "KOOKS". Cucks rymes with Ducks.

All right day after and their picks are done, honestly I think it’s c+ draft. They got their needs covered, addressed the WRs big time LBs have depth and can challenge, two big ol o linemen that can go tackle or guard. And they got insurance behind the $100 million dollar QB that gets hurt when the season is on the line.

Well I like the Prince Tega Wanogho pick late. I think he could develop into a decent backup tackle type.

I would give it a C. I like that they drafted some speedy wideouts, and I like K'Von Wallace and Prince Tega Wanogho selections. Not crazy about the linebackers but they do have speed so we shall see if they can develop some.

I hate the Hurts selection, but I know we need depth at QB due to Wentz's obvious injury history. I just wish they would have taken Mims there and addressed backup Qb later. But clearly they must see Hurts as a potential starting NFL QB, even if they don't intend to have him start over Wentz.
