i think the problem is, and you have the media constantly repeating these warning, because certain assholes just refuse to listen as we can see from all the reporting/news that is coming out of florida at the beaches/spring break etc.

And, I mean, California just shut down.

The expert there predicted that 56% of the population will get the virus within a couple months. If there are 40M people in California thats well over 20M people.

If there is just a 1% mortality rate, in California alone, that is 200,000 people dying.

a lot of people are really bad at math and do not understand how exponential growth works and how hard it is to get a disease that is so easily communicable to a factor under 1.0 to reduce the transmission rate.

if every person infected JUST infects 1.5 other people, that growth SKYROCKETS once you get out a few generations.

I dont know.

I know that the government in China can do a lot of things that the government in the US cannot do, and i know the culture in the US is much different than the culture in China. I know the virus had its start in December and the US is woefully unprepared and up until just over a week ago national news agencies were trying to paint the virus as a hoax to hurt the president politically. Those arent good things. If you cant get the spread factor to less than 1.0 than it will inevitably spiral out of control.

Not so much that he's pulling stuff out of his ass. It's not that there isn't reason for concern. But his main concern is politics and he's doing what looks good politically.

California is a huge state. In places like LA and the Bay area, it makes a certain amount of sense to shut things down on at least some level because in those areas, there are a ton of people, many from other states and other part of the world and they are in pretty close quarters.

Where I live, folks are a little more spread out and there aren't a lot of people coming and out of the city. So, we don't need the level of precautions that LA or the Bay would.

I'm not saying this thing isn't serious. But the level of panic and hysteria is overblown.

I'd also be extremely skeptical of anything the Chinese government says. They covered it up, then denied it, then downplayed it. They aren't exactly known for their transparency.

Yeah, they definitely have the ability to do a forced quarantine. That would never fly here. Personally, I prefer our way. lol
