Don't get me wrong I think the 49ers did the right thing in running the ball rather then have Jimmy throwing the ball. The results speaks loudly.

It tells us that the opponent couldn't stop the run.

Going by quantity, Dilfer's playoff stats look better (although I have a feeling that the efficiency numbers favor Jimmy by a lot), but these numbers don't tell us much because the sample size is very small. We have Dilfer's whole career to tell us that he sucked. I doubt that the Ravens were only considering Dilfer's performance in those 4 games when they decided to dump him.

With regard to Garoppolo, his numbers for this extremely small 2-game sample size is very deceiving because of how unusually dominant the Niners were able to run the ball. Only throwing 8 passes because your running game is abusing the other team like they were a cupcake college football team is highly unusual in the modern NFL.

Dilfer was limited and yes had a good part of his career to show it. This is Jimmy 6th year in the league. Back up, on the IR, now game manager. Is 6 years a large enough sample size? I think so. However still plenty of time to change the script. Lets see if he does that.

We all know the Ravens dumped Dilfert after winning the Superbowl due to being so limited. His stats confirm that. So I was wondering how his numbers stack up vs Jimmy G. Dilfert had 4 games vs 2 thus far for Jimmy, so I averaged the numbers. Here are the numbers.
Attempted passes per game: Dilfert 18.25 Jimmy 13.25
Completions per game: Dilfert 8.75 Jimmy 8.5
Yards per game: Dilfert 147.5 Jimmy 100.5
TDs in 4 games Dilfert had 3. Jimmy in 2 games has 1

Who has the better stats in the playoffs?

49rs are playing well as a team, good defense, good running game, Jimmy just needs to not screw it up... He's definitely being protected right now... I"m sure he's happy as a clam back there....

Luckiest man in the NFL without a doubt.

LOL at saying 6 year sample size when you know that he was Brady's backup for 3 of those years and was injured last year. But anyway, we don't need a whole career's worth sample size to know that Jimmy is better than Dilfer because Dilfer sucked and Jimmy doesn't.

I believe I mentioned he was a backup, then on IR and now game manager. Six years have passed for Jimmy, clock is ticking on his career. At some point he has to show he more then he has been thus far.

Dilfer enjoyed the same great running game. Shanahan clearly told Garoppolo not to screw up.

Jimmy (or any qb) isn't needed when your RB goes for 200 and 4 tds

When he threw for 349 yards and 4tds against the Saints at their stadium, no one said anything. He had to come through that game and he did. This whole narrative is laughable.

Yes, you did, which makes it even funnier that you said six year sample size. He's 28, but he's got plenty of time left considering how protected QB's are now. He could play into his 40's.

The game manager thing is a false narrative anyway. He's got a good coach and good teammates, so it's fair to not give him a ton of credit for having a productive season and a 102 passer rating, but he's done his job very well this season. When called upon to air it out, he's done a good job. No one should call him a great QB just yet, but you have to be a little crazy to think he is like Trent Dilfer.

Yeah, this past game Shanahan basically told the offense that if they can't tackle us, just keep running.

Shanahan's not stupid. He probably has several schemes, but doesn't screw with what's working. My guess is, he prepares a bit differently for KC, but will start out trying to run all over them.

I think the Niners do prefer to win that way. It is encouraging that the Niners have shown versatility this season. It started off with solid defense and running game earlier in the season. Later in the season, the defense played poorly and the running game stalled for a little while, but the offense was able to step up and win games. It's good to see that the defense is looking better again.

Yeah, I do have a lot of faith in Shanahan. I want to believe that he has a ton of stuff saved up to use for the passing attack since he didn't have to do much with that in the first two playoff games.

I could be off, but I am pretty sure Mahomes' 2nd quarter stats are better than Jimmy G's postseason stats this postseason, which, yeah, volume, but still out of this world.

It is. I think he could have put up similar numbers if the running game was bad. It wasn't and he could sit back and hand the ball off. No sense changing anything
